"question Time" The Nicht (11 Dec)

So Nigel Farage and Russell Brand are both on Question Time tonight. I think its BBC 1 at 10.35pm.

It ought to make for some interesting viewing.

I like Farage and think Brand is a total cock (for one thing, he irredeemably soiled the formerly magnificent Katy Perry).

But at least he's different, I suppose we could say that for the obnoxious pratt.

I think its depressing that we have comedians amid what are meant to be "serious" / worthwhile discussions. If thats the standard then, Gads, why not get John Smeaton on to share his thoughts on the works of Dostoyevsky? ;)

I think the show will be quite entertaining. Probably Farage and the others will crack on with the fighting and Brand will pop up like a jack-in-the-box occasionally, spouting populist bullshit to the delight of the carefully selected "right on" BBC audience of leftist pigs.

Maybe I am too hard on the w*nker, Brand; I thought this was quite interesting:

I don't see a problem with a comedian getting involved in politics and political discussion. Jon Stewart does it brilliantly, Doug Stanhope would tear most politicians a new arse one on one... Lewis Black and Bill Maher likewise.

Brand, however, lacks anything like the level of maturity required to debate on anything other than a schoolyard level.

He's A twat", in regular parlance.

I like Farage and I like Brand, for very different reasons.

Farage's speech in Strasbourg was awesome, ripping the corrupt regime and it's new president to shreds.

Brand on Paxman was tremendous, speaking sense that we never hear in politico speech and doing it with great humour.

I predict Brand will rip Nigel a new one, or will attempt to.

Unmissable viewing.

I'm the opposite CS...it's Farage that's the cock...it was Brand that used his cock to irredeemably soil Katy Perry...probably up the arse...just to anger you more...Brand will wipe the floor with Farage...

that was great telly, the audience were well up for it. one mad wifey up the back lost the plot several times.

penny cock mordaunt has lost anything she once had, she's just a big ride. she was a bit green round the gills a few times.

Russell brando is right, the games a bogey. the banks are laughing at us and it is no secret, they even rub it in folks faces by saying that trickle down effect is a good thing! should be a torrent. we all no that the banks run the whole thing, it's just that all these mps have their hands dirty or after they're finished the public stint they want to dive in the plague pit as well. just the way it is.

these tax dodging companies need to tow the line as well.

I've not sussed out brand yet, no sure.

You're last sentence is quite right. He's a prime candidtate to be up there on the 'wankers I despise' list so it get's a bit confusing when his points of view make sense....

I like anyone like Brand putting pressure on the establishment and pointing out where things have gone badly wrong. I just don't like how his job needs the public to like him . He puts on a new show and people think "i like Brand i'll pay £20 quid to see him" or "I like brand i'll buy his book for £15 ( available on websites like amazon & apple he criticises for not paying tax - funny irony they will make money from avoiding tax on folk buying a book criticising them for avoiding tax)

Farage however is a privately educated city boy trying to get into government by criticising privately educated city boys ... I don't know enough about Europe to make up my mind though but if it's as bad as he makes out then it's bad. Although I've seen polls that say public perception of the number of immigrants is higher than the number of immigrants itself.

Brand isn't profiteering from the book, it's all going to charities and protests. He's very conscious of the common person casting a doubtful eye and why shouldn't they cast a doubtful eye, after all, every politician gets into power saying they want change etc only to slip into the status quo. Interesting that the older members of the board dislike him, likely due to his flamboyancy and tight troosers. Like him or loath him, you can't disagree with the point he really is actively trying to make. He is giving his whole life to sticking one up Westminster, what's not to like?

I had an overwhelming feeling that Brand was thinking " were all fucked" whilst listening to the same inane pish from both the politcal bods and the masses who believe the shite they read in the daily mail......if theres anything Brand would/should have taken from last night was that his fight will hit a brick wall, he has no chance, we have no chance, I actually said to the Mrs, " how to fukk did we get to this place in society, when did people actually stop giving a fukk about anything?" I had some hope in September and we even passed up on that chance, the walls are slowly crumbling and I fear for the future, I seriously do, when I listen to Farage blaming mass immigration for road congestion and a shite education system, I really do wonder what to fuck is going on in this country.

While I hold no love for Farage and his Tories-on-steroids party, I despair at the fact a 3rd rate comedian, turned strung-out middle class junkie, turned Caviar Communist, is being lauded as some sort of "voice of the people". Seriously, has society really dumbed-down that much?

All I could see was a man massively out of his depth (and looking like he's still using drugs) but trying to sound "down wit da kidz", yet ultimately coming up with fuck-all in terms of an alternative or a solution... and his answer to the audience member's "why don't you stand, then?" told me a lot... he is just a gobshyte mouthpiece, who screams the same tired old "fuck the system, politicos iz bad, innit"-type slogans, thinking that the more often and the louder he shouts, the bigger the difference he will make.

Pathetic.

But isn't that the problem with Question Time….? The fact that it's all really a sound bite regurgitating points scoring exercise that used to be for people with a small bit of political interest. Thanks to the interwebz we as the electorate are a far more engaged and mostly far more informed public and where once these cunts could get away with stuff easily now they have to be even more devious and despicable to get away with the selfish money grabbing shite that they do.

But as one person in the audience called it (or rather shouted it) last night, no anti establishment types really want to start a movement. Mainly because they'll be torn apart such is the wonderful way the media portrays them. I'll give Farage this, despite the crazy shit that gets reported about their members bonkers beliefs, he's delivered an option (whether viable or not) to a disenfranchised element of the Great British public, They don't give a fuck what people think about them, they're always good for a bit of controversy, and they'll actually say a lot more than the lily livered, toe the party line, speak but say nothing Con/Dem/Lab career politician twats… Thank God we have the SNP instead...

But JB, he's the only voice I hear that is saying the whole system is inherently corrupt?

Surely for this alone, he deserves some sort of credit.

He's right, the system is absolutely bereft of integrity. Some wifie on QT exposed that Sandra Cameron's father was the biggest financial beneficiary of wind farm technology in the UK. Have you seen anything of this in the press? She would have been sued the arse off if it WASN't true.

Brand said 71 MP's were to benefit directly if further private finance initiatives were to occur in the NHS. I never knew this. It's shocking and unless it's true, he would be sued.

THE SYSTEM IS POLITICIANS USING POWER FOR THEIR OWN ENDS.

Surely you agree and can see this?

To be fair jockey at the very least he is more objective than you.

Not that that's difficult or anything but its nice to see some objectivity in the selfish world of politics

Your idiocy surfaces once more, drunken fool. Care to elaborate on my supposed lack of objectivity? Oh right, I see. I didn't see that rod. Imbecile.

Yes, but Rocket, he is only saying what the discerning minds know already... any daft cunt can jump up and down in a hissy fit and say "down wit da system, innit" but when there is no viable alternative to back this up, it just comes across as empty sloganeering.

Politicians are inherently bastards. Corrupt bastards, at that. This we know. What people want, is to hear an intelligent, well thought-out argument as to how a different path can be forged.

Once again, the divergence between politics in Scotland and England was laid bare for us to see... while we were able to channel our frustrations as well as our aspirations into a 2yr referendum campaign, all England has is UKIP (who, for all their noise, don't want to bring down - or significantly change - the system, but merely rewind it 30yrs to when free-for-all capitalism and a lackadaisical "me first" ethos were the order of the day) and Caviar Communists like Brand.

I agree with you and I see your point.

Where he does add value however, is that he can get to all the tabloid readers who aren't capable of independent thought.

His "being down wid da kids", or his striving to be potentially opens up the mass market and without the mass market, nothing can happen.

The sheeple have currently zero awareness. We need people like Brand.

I don't like Brand's particular brand of comedy (pardon the pun) but his trews videos on youtube are excellent. Sometimes his facts aren't particularly accurate but in my opinion he is doing a good thing.

I got a bit bored overall with QT last night. That woman in the lilac top was exceedingly dull. Had to go make some toast when she was talking so I ate a lot of toast before I switched off near the end.

Might watch the rest of it on the iplayer this evening.

brand was right about the immigration thing just being a made up pile of shite by rich newspaper owners and media barons, so we don't hassle the super wealthy and corporations industrial tax evasion. farage is just their mouthpiece and he knows it.

the audience seem quite clued up, just a few low foreheads were like aye it's immigrants fault.

these immigrants have never bothered me, but paying my bills fair and square does while amazon and so on can get away with paying next to f all.

I'm with both JB and RS, Brand isnt saying anything different, he's doing his best to get the info out there, but he's preaching to the sheep, people do not want to rise and rebel, most of the population have been working class heroes all their lives, and we live in a don't rock the boat mentality in this country, driven into our brains by our own fucking parents, and parents before that.....and before that, and the cycle continues, none more so than our own independence vote, were scared of change, were scared of authority and we will continue down the path of destruction until there will be no return......I just hope and pray Farage gets his way come May.

I agree with this. Always had a dislike for him from his early MTV days when he'd fuck with people's heads who were out their nut.

Don't mind him at all now although I wish he'd use less words to get his point across as my mind wanders away from what he's saying sometimes.

Get to the point.

Not sure how you can get a fact that's not particularly accurate mind you. It's fact or fiction.

I'm sure you're not bothered by that particular fact but I thought I'd throw it in there.

I see the fat mouthy cripple who got a bit arsey with Brand is the brother of a UKIP MEP.

Oh dear. Although he did have a point about standing himself. Brand's arse collapsed a bit at that. Pathetic retort to say I'd become one of them.
