Nadir Ciftci: Dundee United would want £3m for striker_57733517_jimspencehead.jpgBy Jim SpenceBBC Sport

Dundee United will look for a fee of at least £3m for striker Nadir Ciftci, who has been watched by several clubs.

Representatives of Charlton, Huddersfield and Norwich watched the forward face St Johnstone on Saturday.

Celtic have also been linked with the Turk and his team-mate Stuart Armstrong, who is also 22.

"It's all speculation at the moment, but we set the bar in summer for sales from this club," said United chairman Stephen Thompson.

"We got £3m apiece for [Ryan] Gauld and [Andrew] Robertson so why would we settle for any less for Nadir."

Debt-free United are in no rush to sell either player, nor are they under any financial pressure to do so, with Gauld and Robertson having moved to Sporting Lisbon and Hull City, respectively, in the summer.

Thompson added that he had received no bids at this stage for any United players, but that could change once the January transfer window opens.

Ciftci, who has scored eight goals this season, and midfielder Armstrong both have 18 months left on their contracts at Tannadice.

Shift-key also seems to go into hiding whenever he plays the famous however I do think he's a very talented player - going by the dundee utd forums he's not been up to much this season. How much did st. Johnstone get for May? He's not worth anything more than May.

Armstrong is a good player on his day but far to inconsistent - a bit like our very own Peter Pawlett. I thought it was the bank that negotiated the transfer fees for their players?

If they can get 3mill for him then good on them.

Fed up of Scottish clubs being regarded as easy meat and having players taken for a fraction that they then get sold on for after a year or two elsewhere.

This.

In real terms he's worth whatever some no-mark English team are prepared to pay for him.

Hes already a pretty strong and skilful player with potential to improve.

£3M is a snip really when you consider the shite going for larger sums down the road

He is worth it, because he's a very good striker playing in a decent side and he's scoring regularly.

If you ask for a million, you'll get 750k.

There's a lot to admire about Thompson's approach, it clearly works.

Must be a bugger trying to buy a loaf and a pint of milk in morning noon and night if that's the way he works...

No, he's not.

But The Old Firm had Scottish football over a barrel for years. They would feed stories to the press trying to paint the clubs as 'the bad guy' for not letting their best player leave for some miserly fee whilst they go and spend £4/5 million on some no mark journeyman striker. United are letting Celtic know they won't be treated that way again as they have no financial pressure to sell, and I'd hope every other team would take the same approach.

They do this extremely well. State publicly what they want for him and they'll be happy to get 2 mil plus sell ons and bonuses. Great business and aggressive sales tactics, rather than pussy foot around like we've done in the past. You want Ryan Jack ? 2 million quid - but if someone offers us 1.5 mil plus sell ons we can sell. Not shit our pants when they offer 250k...

Ciftci does a Suarez.

NADIR CIFTCI was last
night accused of biting Jim McAlister during yesterday’s Dundee derby.

The Dundee United hitman is set to face an SFA probe after pictures emerged on social media – originally sent to a friend of McAlister’s – apparently showing his leg with a bite-shaped red mark.
It’s alleged that the incident happened late in yesterday’s 3-0 win for United at Tannadice when Ciftci and McAlister tangled on the turf following a
meaty tangle.
McAlister was seen repeatedly making furious complaints to referee John Beaton and was still raging two minutes later when he copped an 89th-minute booking for a flare-up with United defender Jaroslaw Fojut.
But it was only later that the real reason for
McAlister’s fury emerged.
However, last night the midfielder and club officials refused to comment on the situation, with SFA
compliance officer Tony McGlennan likely to
 investigate the claims
 this week.
