rumpus
Hi, rumpus here, I have nothing to do and all day to do it and should be the same story for another couple of weeks. So to alleviate the boredom was considering doing one of those 5 day intensive training courses on a bike where you sit the test at end of week. After google search it appears this can be done in a couple of locations in Aberdeen. So question is: Has anyone done this previously and if so what are recommendations. Thanks in advance. ChutneyLove
You won't need a full week of lessons. I did my CBT then 5 lessons on the 650 then did my test. I'd never ridden a manual bike before then. Link to comment
rumpus
Thanks Chutney. Only problem is that apart from a scrambler to go tearing through woods when a teenager I haven't been on a bike since. Do you think it's advisable to just buy a 125, look like a pleb for a few weeks and then do the test? Link to comment
ChutneyLove
Yep, though I think you may have to do the test on a 500 or above? Can't really remember, it was about 15 years ago now. I didn't even have that scrambling experience you've had. The thing is, you soon realise that learning to drive wasn't about actually learning how to drive a car, it was about road positioning / being safe etc. If you already have that in your locker, then learning to ride the bike itself is a caker. Down Under Sheep
Did mine years ago, but CBT one weekend, then theory the following week. 5 day direct access course was on a Kawasaki 500, and used the same bike for my practical test. Bike to get depends on what you want to do with it, daily riding, weekend fun, comfort, speed? Post above says ZX6R, this was my first bike after passing, then moved to ZX10r, GSXR 100 and GSXR750, as well as Bandit 1250 (comfy and sit up a bit, but not enough top end for my liking) So only have the two 1000cc, 750 and an old '73 Ducati 750ss Never ridden the cruiser style bikes, just have never appealed to me. Notorious Chee
The 5 day course will have you well prepared before doing your test. If you have previous experience on a geared bike you should find it very easy to pick up the basics. I had a cbt for two years before doing my full test. A 125 is a good novelty for a couple of months, but after that your left wishing for something with more horses! Link to comment
tommo1903
I've been watching Sons of Anarchy, I reckon you should get a bike. Link to comment

I see your vast wages have allowed you to expand your bike collection, well in min. Stop talking pi*h. How are tattoos for minks? Can tell you now i probably earn 4 times as much money as you, have masters degree in chemistry, live in a huge house with a pool on other side of the world, have 2 motorbikes, and 2 brand new 4 wheel drive cars in the gagrages. AND i probably pay more in tax than you earn. So the fact that i have tattoos means i'm a mink? Either that or your statement means your a total tube!! Link to comment
Poodler
The pool being on the other side of the world must be a logistical nightmare for down under sheep. Though I'm astounded that you dug up that post Harcus. I have nothing of relevance to contribute to this thread Link to comment

That's an impressive collection. I would have thought a cruiser bike would have been superb in Australia, big open spaces and all that. Best bike to get would have to have a big fat back tyre and make people look round when you pass because of the burbling growl it makes. But not a Harley cos most people that have them are wankers who believe they're at the pinnacle of some ficticious pecking order. Kinda like a Raleigh Chopper for mannies. Link to comment

Only if you passed your car test before a certain date, I'm old enough to drive one on a car license but not sure what the cut off date was, other than that you'd need a CBT. Link to comment
rumpus
Then good sir if we're speaking rumble, a comfortable ride and plenty cubic centimetres with a meaty rear then I can't not suggest to you............Victory Motorcycles. Real American Iron. The Hammer S is a lovely ride. Equally as nice but often overlooked since it's Jap, Suzuki Intruder 1800 BOSS edition. Rumpus I believe you want to be the boss on the road? Be the boss........ride the BOSS!! Harley riders are normally knobs dressed head to toe in Harley gear but the Harley Breakout is a wonderful machine. Thanks for the pointers kind Sir. Morning Porn Hub has now been done, quick wash of the paws and I'll be having a look at those bad boys imminitley. Link to comment
