What's the problem?

Whether or not football should be an olympic sport; it is an olympic sport at the moment. Great Britain and Northern Ireland are represented in lots of sports. If there is a GB cycling / volleyball / canoe slalom, so why not football?

You don't hear about the English / Scottish / Welsh / NI hockey associations getting their knickers in a twist over the GB hockey team. Similarly there is the British and Irish Lions Rugby Union team.

I'm not particularly excited about it, but I don't mind. There's plenty of other things in the world to get upset about.

I agree. Incidentally, if I was a top level footballer, there is no way I'd even consider getting involved with Olympic football. Total irrelevant waste of time and energy.

Actually a good point... I can't remember who won in 2012.

Correct.

Its not work worrying about.

Unless your African or SA; they take it seriously.

Its nothing more than a 3rd tier Intl tournament.if you can grasp that concept then the idea of "team GB" will never bother you.

I wasn't there.

I don't believe i've been to Rugby Park since December the 20th, 1997.

I'm not going back until Biffy Clyro are playing.

What a bounce it wasn't. I missed my General Standard Grade Biology exam for it. Took a risk and let it all ride on the Credit paper.

I always thought the Olympics was for amature's...seems not these days...the Olympic football would be far more interesting if the players had to be amature's...could spawn a few fairytale moments as Dave the butcher got spotted and signed for Man Utd...great TV

I admittedly got a bit carried away with Great Britain in 2012. Olympics, Mo Farah double gold, Cycling golds smashing everyone all over the track, Sir Wiggo winning the TdF and so on.

The football I couldn't raise any interest. Don't follow Scotland let alone GB team in Olympic competition.

I think because each nation has their own team it doesn't work. The British Lions works in rugby because it's been around for a while and the team is generally a broad mix of all nations so easier to identify with. Rugby fans are also perceived to be a bit posher than football fans and more in with the Great Britain thing anyway.

If the team had a guaranteed two picks for each nation in the starting 11 it might work. Of course that's not going to be the strongest team but it might galvanise the nations to support team GB.

I'd rather we had a team GB for the full team than the current status, we're just a region of Britain at the end of the day, we voted no to independence and should just play as the one Country, weird that we're the only Country allowed multiple entries, I believe it's as we're original members but that should really change.

We'd be quite a team if the regions played under the one banner.

Stop it. Nobody thinks you actually believe that pish.

I do!!

I may be in the minority but I could support a team gb as easily as I could Scotland, you don't see regions of Germany entering teams, why should we be any different, one Country, one Nation.

I'd do away with Holyrood as well but that's for a different thread.

Imagine if we combined, we could be serious contenders, besides only fair on other Countries who can only enter once.

Absolute uproar when Bruce picks an all Sportsman's XI for Team GB.
