MikeyT83
As we continue building a squad with Driver the latest, been thinking of a few options - one that I would like to see tried (doesn't necessarily involve Driver), is playing McGinn up top with Rooney or Goodwillie as part of a 4-4-2. Maybe late on in a game where we can't seem to get through with just Rooney as a solo striker. Maybe Jack/Mclean in central mid and Pawlett, Hayes or Driver covering Left and Right attacking mid. I'm thinking back to how effective McGinn used to be through the middle. I'm putting my tin hat on for the usual abuse fae the minority of dicks fa have never even kicked a ball, but it's just a suggestion, right or wrong. Any constructive comments for or against it as an idea? Link to comment
Abramdon
I must admit that putting McGinn up front has crossed my mind a few times. I think that it has now faded away as an option. We now have three good strikers - Rooney, Shanks and Badcock in that order. Also McInnes is unlikely to try 442 again unless it is against crap teams. McInnes played 442 in several games early in the season. I watched the ICT game at Pittodrie in September. I'm guessing that it was typical of the 442 games. I only saw the highlights of the others. The ICT game was high scoring and could of gone either way. I don't think that McInnes wants to go back to that. Link to comment
CalgaryDon
MikeyT83 - Had the same thought myself - With Driver coming on board (even Shinnie next season) this would allow us to play McGinn up top alongside Rooney. McGinn has done well on the wing and clearly makes a great number of assists however I think given the quality of player (particularly since the time he joined) and overall change to the style of play – McGinn could potentially flourish even more so up front. Potentially that could be our strongest goal scoring partnership for decades. I’d like to DM experiment with those two starting up front. Link to comment

Then you have a kid who's never scored for the first team and only played a few minutes for us over a guy who has played for Scotland, he's been worth millions and scored goals for us and links up very well with the midfield and created a ton of chances for the team. scoutman70
Best leaving these decisions to the manager, that's what I think. That's just stupid! Why would we employ a knowledgeable guy, on a decent salary and then leave him to made the decisions he is paid to make...seems a bit odd. Ignoring him and going with the general consensus from a group of fans on an online forum sounds like a much better idea Link to comment

I would be more than happy to see us line up like that to surprise the opposition/involve driver and Hayes at the same time / improve our all round play. I saw Niall playing in that position at Tynecastle a couple of years ago and he was ace. Imagine this for a team: - Brown Logan Taylor Reynolds Shinnie Jack McleanDriver McGinn Hayes Rooney Link to comment

Okay I was a bit over the top with that comment. However, I do find Goodwillie a little underwhelming. Admittedly I've only seen him play live twice, against ICT in September and in the Semi final. He certainly isn't worth millions now. Scumdee Ushited didn't even think he was worth keeping on after his second stint at the club. His stats are 6 goals from 23 starts. Shanklands are 0 goals from 0 starts. Maybe it's time to give the lad a chance. Link to comment

I disagree on goodwillie, he creates the odd chance here and there but he doesn't give the opposition defence that much to think about. He seems easily dispossessed and uninterested most of the time, then on the odd occasion we see what he can do.......he's very frustrating to watch. Link to comment
