Scotland V Gibraltar (6 - 1)

Sbragia should be sacked for that.

Completely unforgivable.

Harper may well be shite (although a five-year contract with Real Madrid would probably suggest otherwise...). However, it's these comments which are unforgivable:

Sbragia explained: 'Our concentration is on the opening game with Austria and we've deliberately got more height in our squad. That's one of the reasons why Jack isn't in.

'Unfortunately, I don't see enough of him in action. The last time he was with us, he did OK, but I wanted a little more impact. At Real Madrid he can float all over the place, which he does. But with us, he has to be more disciplined.

'He's an exceptionally gifted lad, but sometimes we can't carry him. He can be a luxury sometimes. In some cases, if it's going well, he can be a good luxury.'

If you are a Scotland coach and one of your players plays for the biggest football club in world (apart from Celtic of course...) then you make it your business to watch him. I've read elsewhere that the UK cable channels show the youth development Champions League matches on TV? Apparently Harper has been on TV loads of times. Surely make the effort to at least watch him a few times? It is your job after all!

Part of playing for Scotland is about passion. We have to try and make up for the limited resources we have with extra passion and work rate. So in the national team we have some no mark Englishman who has never set foot in Scotland and yet we are rejecting a young lad at the biggest football club in the world who is being chased by one of the greatest football nations but has the passion and will to play for Scotland. Between all that and those depressing comments from sbragia we've lost the fucking plot. He should be sacked immediately.

We never used to have "limited resources".

In fact we were arguably a hotspot in the whole country.

Football isn't about nature.

Its about nurture

Surely our lack of decent modern day players isn't another biproduct of the world class SFA?

We should ask TAW VDA14.

we're limited to the extent of having a far smaller pool of talent to pick from than the likes of Spain or any of the other leading nations. Your right though, we don't nearly make the most of what we have. Some of that is our fault and some is because of the ridiculous sums of money offered to our youth players to warm a bench in some nonentity of an English league club. The number of players who have fucked or massively hindered their careers chasing the pound is killing our game. Fyvie, grimmer, Ryan Fraser, Scott Allen, Danny Wilson and many more have chased the money and damaged their careers.

you can't say that we're not doing things now we did years ago which seems to be what you're suggesting. That would be ridiculous argument. In our 'glory' years our players were largely working class lads who had played football all day every day on the streets. There was also no sports science and drinking was almost manditory. Our kids now are miles more professional in terms of diet and fitness and have massively better facilities.

So what are the reasons? You're obsessed with English football so you'll never admit that it's a problem for us. It is, it's strangled the life out of our game and drained our talent. We don't have the money to invest because we have fuckwits in charge of our game who talk it down constantly. We have chairman, our own amongst them who would rather dance to the tune of celtic and the huns when they are back and are happy to feed off the scraps.

The SFA have never had any vision in terms of planning for the future of our game and producing the hundreds of more coaches we need to provide the coaching to kids that would even come close to what the Spanish so. There are loads of problems in our game but looking back to see what we used to do is not the answer to solving our problems going forward.

Sports science and better diet doesn't mitigate the fact that most kids nowadays would rather sit and play PS4 or X-Box than sports.

Football is pish because there just isn't the pool of players to draw from that there used to be. That's why we should be scouting darkest Africa, no PS4s there... just EbloaAids and mud huts.

Send them a bunch of fitbas on the understanding they sign for the Dandy Dons if they turn out to be the next Finidi George..

There is the same pool of players

We still have a population of 5m

The desire/grassroots simply isn't there any more.

Its very much our problem

There isn't the same pool of players.

Your pool of players relates to the number of kids playing fitba, not the population of the country.

The clue is in the term... 'Pool of players

Same pool.

Why aren't they playing then?

Like I said this is not because of sky TV or the EPL or global warming.

Its cause someone somewhere isn't encouraging kids to take up football.

No ball games please !!

The advent of home entertainment and the easy access to shit food.

Even when I was a kid there was very little in the way of anything keeping kids indoors. There was 3 channels on telly, one of which was a permanent test card, one of which showed non-stop middle-class sitcoms, and one of which had nothing but adverts. Now you have 3000 channels of TV.

Computers were something you saw on Space 1999. Porn was something you found in the bushies, the pages stuck together because someone had spunked on a soft core picture of a hazy pair of tits.

Now you have computers that let you shoot Musiims in COD, or fly spaceships, or manage the Dons to Euro glory, and at the flick of a url will give you unlimited access to billions of pictures of women being degraded in every sexual position you can imagine, and in some you can't, using a variety of dildos, cocks, and family and farmyard pets to get themselves off. (I can send you the url for that)

You don't even have to get off your arse to speak to your mates. Once upon a time you would grab your fitba, stick on your short shorts, and off you go to batter a fitba around for two hours of impromptu fitba training. Now the little fat cunts Skype from the comfort of their own bedroom.

Talent is a myth.

To thrive in something takes thousands of hours of meaningful practice, which was a lot easier to do 30 years ago since there was less distractions (as eloquently summarised by kelt)

I guess it's why you see so many Brazilian players from the favelas, they've got uck all resources and kick about plastic bottles and rubber balls for hours 7 days a week.

How many footballing models has the sfa decided to follow? dutch, French, Belgian? Out these models, how many have we actually persevered with long term?!

These models weren't implemented and paying off after 4-5 years. The sfa is a shambles and this latest story is a sorry state of affairs.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him called up to the full national squad for the experience...
