Clydeside_Sheep
As per the review thread, I saw the new mad max film the nicht. The original mad max was out in 1979, this is the fourth movie of the franchise. In the previews, (usually a lot of sh*te), I was surprised as there were several films which looked alright. But none are original or new ideas: New Terminator film - first one out 1984, the latest will be the 5th movie New Jurassic Park film - first one out 1993, the latest will be the 4th film I think New Mission Impossible film - first one out 1996, latest will be the 5th film So given the obvious trend for digging up the corpses of successful movies from decades ago, I wonder: (there other examples, look at how they flog the dead marvel comics horse too. And there was only 3 LOTR films, but they were so exhaustive that they could have made 20 with the same material. Star wars saga.) Is this altogether a bad thing? I love the Max Max and Terminator worlds, for example. It is good to enjoy more of them, develop them. But then how fresh and innovative they were at first was part of what made them so brilliant. I do tend to think that > 3 films in a series is taking the piss somewhat. What do you think has the creative spark gone from hollywood, or is it just a case of going for easy wins to ensure max profits for minimum creative effort? I think of brilliant films which really blew me away - star wars , jaws, terminator, aliens, predator; but its been a long, long time I had that type of "wow" experience from a film. Link to comment
Ke1t
Hollywood is more about making money than potentially pishing it away on a risky venture. That's why a lower budget film is more likely to try something different. I was watching a film where a German lad murders rabbits and fucks human corpses... he had a bird who was big time into fucking the corpses inna... so they would fuck these corpses and speak about shit in German. Not sure what they were saying because my German's a bit sketchy, and the Torrent hadn't came with a subtitle file... though to be honest I doubt the dialogue would have added much to the experience anyway. Anyway it was a fucking dreadful film, and it looked like it... Nekromantik I think it was called... and it looked like the budget only stretched to the shovel they dug the corpses up with, but the point is that it's these low budget efforts where they'll try something new, knowing they'll get their cash back if only a few hundred people ever pay to see it. If you want new and original then I'd go with the low budget jobs. You'll have to watch a lot of demented shitting and pissing and fisting films before you find something decent, but you're Catholic so it shouldn't be overly disconcerting to see that sort of stuff, I'm sure. daytripping
If it works it isn't a surprise they do remakes, sometimes it works, the Rocky films got better as they went from a start, sometimes it doesn't but hey ho no one is forced to watch the movies. It's all about the money at the end of the day, if people are still stupid enough to pay for Fast and Furious 7 when even number 1 was cack then fair play to all involved. Link to comment

Bluto10
I could recite rocky 4 from start to finish, if you're interested. What a soundtrack it has. Link to comment
Quagmire
I see they're remaking Point Break as well. Absolute classic 90's film. Should be left alone. All the comic book movies are absolutely shite and are just carbon copies of one another. Apart from Batman, Batman's sound. 1 Link to comment

fatjim
They not only rehash film ideas but they also make films out of what were at best mediocre tv shows. I have never been a fan of holywood blockbusters. They are OK for a bit of escapism but they are never going to be great films for me. Good to see a couple of my mates won an award at the Cannes film festival last week for their film "Rams"Well chuffed for them. Also a topic close to all our hearts cocks. Can't wait to see it if it gets shown in Scotland. Link to comment

Ach I am bored of the defecating and pisssing this weather. Seen one, you've seen them all Its a good point about low budget flicks though - foreign movies (not those type) are often good for that. E.g. I dont expect La Haine (early VIncent Cassel) had a major budget but it was superb. I first saw it after I recorded it on VHS by accident, back in the day (it was on after the thing I had intended to tape) and it has been a favourite of mine ever since. Link to comment

A fair point, too many of them just rely on special effects rather than an interesting story, or are just endless rehashes. What was the last film you saw which you would recommend? Link to comment
