Seasons Expectations - Win A Trophy

Recommended Posts

We need to win a trophy this season, simple as that. McInnes clearly isn't a one trophy man. He wants to go down in AFC history as one of the greats. To do that he's got to win another trophy.

Out of the four trophies on offer we've got no realistic chance of winning the Europa League. We aren't going to win the 23 games we need to win the trophy. In my opinion a prolonged European run will damage our domestic season.

To win one of the domestic cups we need to break our Hampden hoodoo. I don't want to walk away from Hampden deeply disappointed like I did in January ever again. We need to get our 2013/14 cup form back.

To win the league is harder but can be done if we correct our mistakes from last season. We need a good start unlike last season when we lost 3 of the first 5 games. We also need to best Celtic (as many times as possible).

Which one is it going to be? I'm putting a tenner on us winning the Scottish Cup. It's long overdue.

Improving in the league and actually getting that DAMNED 80 points will give us a chance to win the league.

Then it's down to two things 1) how good were Celtic? and 2) did we take any points off them?

I say we can win the league Celtic dont get 95 points every season and they were lucky last season to have an awesome keeper/defence and no real problems with injuries

Real chance of the league this season but we need to win the home games v ra cellick and not lose against them away.

Big factor will be if they manage to hang on to Dick van Dyke.

Hopefully one of the Diddy EPL clubs come in with an offer for him before the season kicks off.

League and a cup win, please and thank you

Celtic last season relied on a diamond of Gordon Denayer van dyke and Brown which allowed them to build the wins they needed. At least one hopefully two of those are gone and I don't think they have replaced zalukis yet so if gordons injuries flare up who replaces him?

I would like to see us before the split have the same or better points from celtic (ie a win and a draw) problem we will have for a long time is celtic know how to put together and end of season and become a little like a train and get win on win on win

Do well in the league and the cups will take care of themselves, match celtic results and the league will take care of its self

The league fixtures are quite kind we have 6 games celtic 5 games celtic 11 games celtic 8 games to the split. So we play them twice earlier on when they have less of the immoveable force around them and we have big gaps at the end of the season to build our own momentum when they are playing well

I would say the league is possible - we have as good an opportunity as we might have seen for a long time, the cups will then look after themselves

Much better equipped to challenge for the league than we were last season - particularly with the additions of Quinn and Shinnie. If there is any truth in the May rumour - I'd be expecting us to give Celtic a run for their money.

I'd really be pleased to see us obtain a place in the Europa league group stages - would be a fantastic achievement plus 1.8 mill in the kitty. Furthermore - European nights.

Feel we should be looking to win a cup this year - Winning both the league cup and the Scottish cup are both in the realms of possibility - I imagine there are one or two other teams outside ourselves and Celtic who see this as a realistic target.

Not sure we'll win the league but hope to at least close the gap on Celtic. Hopefully another improvement on the previous year.

I think the expectation should be to win everything… and certainly a cup would be nice, but you still have to get to a final to win them. We've proven that we can win cups, but the preparation needs to to be perfect. Europe delivers cash, SPFL delivers Champions League (not really bothered YET tbh) Cup trophies deliver great days out and your name on the silverware… I'll always be gutted to be knocked out of a cup, especially if it's a team of a lower standing than the Septic...

The club under McInnes deserves another trophy for the great progress it has made on and off the park.

I hope we do win something and think we will - but the sky wont fall in, if not.

Defeatist talk!

Agree, but then so was every trophy until last season.

I will be realistic but bold with my predictions:

- League: runners up (having closed the gap on ra sellick slightly; maybe having beaten them once in the league)

- Cups: win one, semis in the other

- Europa League: Eliminated at Group stage

Agreed.

Lose Rooney for an injury for a long period and the season will be fucked.

I've no faith in Goodwillie or Shankland to deliver the goods as Rooney does.

Big season for Shankland. Needs to get off the mark and start making an impact in these few minutes he's getting here and there.

He had plenty of chances last season that he blew.

This is the strongest Dons side since 1990/91 so we should be looking to win the league.

We made progress in that sense last season, we make the same progress again and we will be neck and neck with Celtic.

I feel we have a very realistic chance of being champions come next May.

Cup win a must. We're getting closer to number one but still looking to bridge the gap between first and second; that means more consistency and beating Celtic at least once and if we do that in the first meeting then who knows what can happen. Anything less than second in the league a failure which shows how far we've come in the past couple of years re:expectations. Not too bothered about Europe. If we get papped out early then we can concentrate on domestic season.

I'm with you Tup

I think that we will be genuine challengers but we need momentum. As much as I'd love another cup or two setting off against the Arabs with a severe tanking will set the tone.

This team would not beat the 90-91 team though

So ambitious.

I think looking for a treble and the EL groups is too much. There's no way we could manage that so I'd rather be put out of the "diddy cup" rather than any other competition.

Pretty fucking self explanatory to me.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but we won't put a run of results together with the likes of Flood and Robson in the middle of the park. This needs to be addressed.

Haha, you given up on trying convince the people on mad of this?

2nd in the league

Win one cup, semi of another

Difficult to judge the Europa League without knowing who we'll be playing. I'm currently hoping we get past Rijeka.

As has been said Gordon, Van Diyk and Denayer won Celtic a lot of points last season, if that trio is broken up then we'll run them closer again this season. A few injuries for them and who knows...
