The Road To Russia 2018

Recommended Posts

Scotland have been confirmed in the third pot of seeds for this month's World Cup qualifying draw after the latest Fifa rankings were announced.

Gordon Strachan's team have dropped one place to 29th, despite a friendly win over Qatar and a draw against the Republic of Ireland last month.
The rankings form the basis for the seeding for the qualifying draw, which takes place on 25 July.
Scotland were fourth seeds for their current European Championship campaign.
It means the Scots will avoid a rematch with Euro 2016 qualifying opponents Poland, as well as other third seeds Ukraine, Hungary, Sweden, Albania, Northern Ireland, Serbia and Greece.
They could face England or Wales who are among the top seeds, while Italy and France are dangerous second seeds.
There will be seven groups of six teams and another two groups of five. The nine group winners qualify for Russia 2018 and the eight best runners-up play off for a further four spots.
Scotland sit third in Group D behind Poland and Germany in the race for a Euro 2016 spot.

Can't believe the Welsh are top seeds.

That is absolutely gads. Drop a place despite not losing a game since fuck knows when.

I don't get the rankings at all. Pointless exercise, another competition where I'd rather it was a free for all.

SFA were warned that merely playing Qatar would lose placings.

The pots are bizarre. Dont get it. Wales were pot 6 for the last world cup and are now pot 1 without achieving anything. I remember Norway were randomly pot 1 for the last World Cup without qualifying for anything since Euro 2000. Now they are 4. Fit??

It's gonna be another qualification when you look at 1 group that looks hard as fuck then you cant believe how easy another group looks. I think its clear what will happen...

Germany

Italy

Scotland

Turkey

Belarus

Georgia

England

Ditto. Once again the same teams get an easy draw through to the big money tournament, while other nations are doomed to another mediocre run out. I'm going to France next year in the hope I see a Scottish game, or at least hope we are there, but I'm prepared for disappointment and will settle for a random game between two seeded nations.

I'd love it to be a free draw, like the cups in National Leagues. Imagine a qualifying group of Spain, Germany, France, etc? Well worth watching. And imagine if the Faroes got a group with Albania, Lichenstein, Luxembourg & Malta or something? Would be great to see one of them qualify for Euro or World Cup tournaments!

But NO FIFArt is ruled by MONEY so it's the same old big draws into the hat every two years. Who are in England's qualifying group at the moment? A bag of sweets, a dead badger and your Gran? Aye they'll scrape through then get mullered in France.

C'est merde.

Its the SFA fault for arranging a game with Qatar.

Basically that was always going to drop points even if we won.

Fucking mongs should have picked the correct opponent and we might have been in pot 2.

Draw is at 4pm.

It should also be noted that UEFA have requested that England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands must be drawn into a group containing six teams.

As an integral part of the European Qualifiers concept, UEFA will make arrangements for the teams drawn into the two groups of five teams to organise centralised friendly matches for the ten teams concerned as well as for Russia (in principle, with Group I). UEFA will announce the dates and kick-off times of these friendlies in due course after the Preliminary Draw.
