ben_1903
Now I'm not counting my chickens yet...but if we do get through tonight, are we going to lose money from playing Almaty? Surely in order to get there the club need to charter a jet from Aberdeen to Almaty. It needs to be big enough to carry squad, physios, coaching staff and some behind-the-scenes people too. Plus it needs to be big enough to get there directly... Going to be looking at a massive sum!! Link to comment

wicker83
There are flights from LHR - I would have thought they'll just use those. Anyone know what celtic did a few years back when they played Shaktar Karagandy? Link to comment

Celtic flew direct from Aberdeen International Airport on their own private jet. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/in-pictures-celtic-in-kazakhstan-2188652 Link to comment

I'm told that the flight will leave Aberdeen, Unlike the last flight there were seats, This time there isn't as it's full. Celtic played us and then went straight from Aberdeen to Germany to refuel and went on from there. I work out here on rotation and I'm going to the game, The locals have told me that they played Atyrau last week and drew 0-0. Put it this way I think we have a cracking chance, So long as the boys play well and we don't have a lot of them having off days. Link to comment

Of course we do - in case you have forgotten we have a game on Sunday - What are you suggesting we fly back on Friday and get back to Aberdeen very late Friday night or maybe even saturday morning or afternoon? There wont be a flight until Friday Afternoon from what I can see and then there is a 12 -14hr commercial flight be sensible We try with a weeks notice to arrange for around 100 people (if you include sponsers) PLUS all the additional luggage with a weeks notice? Approx costs for private fly is £250000 to £350000 so basically the prize money for the round will be eaten up in one go Link to comment

If I worked at AFC I would have been on the phone to KLM and Lufthansa to get all the options - business class for the players and everyone else in cattle class. Could save six figures. KLM could fly the team back after the game by 10am Friday morning. Lufthansa can do it by 11am. BA will take until midday. But as has already been pointed out, the club have arranged a charter. If you have a problem that it costs money to play in Europe, you should consider becoming a Hun. Link to comment
ben_1903
I don't think anyone has a problem with it...just having a discussion of the fact that it will be expensive. No one is complaining about playing Europe Link to comment
AFCaketin
Leave Tuesday (which you would need to do anyway imo) at 0530 via FRA, gets you in at 2355 ALA. Back Fri 0215, arrive 1100 ABZ - again via FRA. Standard class return at £845 so add £2-3k for the rip off business class. Hardly slumming it. I couldn't care less if the players have to spend a couple of hours in an airport lounge in Frankfurt. Its a total disgrace that we have to travel to fucking china for a game whichever way you look at it. Link to comment
Bamber
No problem with cost at all - but it is relevant and shows the stupidity of a competition that separates teams by 5 distinct time zones. UEFA shouldn't really be running a competition that sees teams lose money Link to comment

AFCaketin
how many seats can you book? Your usual 8/9 as an individual - but that's why I said I would have been straight on the phone to KLM , Lufthansa, BA to check the possibilities and options available. Didn't say it would be easy or even possible to organise but if you have potential six figure savings, it would have been something worth picking up the phone to ask. Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
Firstly, I really don't give a shit what Celtic did. Different market. I genuinely think we have to give this our best shot. Groups stage could transform us and we would potentially be 1 kind draw away from that if successful here (and that's not to ignore tonight either). I would like to think that were the positions reversed and Dutd needed a help because of a frankly outrageous away trip that AFC would accommodate by moving the fixture. Just blame the undersoil heating. Link to comment
ZeroTolerance
who potentially could we get in next round? ARE there any "favourable" teams? getting to the groups would be IMMENSE and as you say, catapult us now we are debt free, the money made could really be invested As I posted earlier: http://www.afc-chat.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=39146&page=18&do=findComment&comment=1195412 There are some shite teams we could draw, particularly teams that might drop from the Champions League Link to comment

Also, potential champions league drop outs who i`d presume would be seeded :Shakhtar Donetsk or Fenerbahce(one of these will definately be in it as playing each other in 3rd round CL)AjaxBaselRed Bull SalzburgMonaco. Southampton and West Ham would not be seeded, so no possible trips to Englandshire till the group stages .Can`t get the tims till the last 16 of the competition. Link to comment
