Da fuck?

Bristol City have supposedly had a £8m or £9m accepted by Brentford for Andre Gray

How does some no-mark club like Bristol City afford that? How can some no mark club like Brentford command that kind of fees? What the hell has changed since McInnes was at Bristol City?

Ridiculous!

It's because the clubs in the championship realise that the financial disparity between the premiership and the championship is going to increase dramatically once the new TV deal kicks in, in 2016. This means that it is integral for certain clubs to get promoted this season so they become part of the gold mine which is the TV deal and establish themselves in the premiership. It will become very difficult to establish themselves in the premiership in years to come after the TV deal has kicked in because of the financial disparity between the two leagues which means that clubs in the championship are doing whatever it takes and spending a lot of money to ensure they get promoted to the premiership this season. For example, Middlesbrough have spent a lot of money on downing and his ridiculous wages and Derby have spent almost 20 million so far this summer. Now Bristol City seem to be doing similar

This could be a blessing in disguise, as a country we need to invest what little funds we have in infrastructure (training facilities, coaching, stadia, pitches).

If we start consistently producing good young players then they will get snapped up for what the English teams will see as peanuts - allowing clubs to invest in said infrastructure and continually develop.

English teams mostly over look our talent and would prefer to buy young players from lower league teams for ridiculous fees, no idea why

Or overpriced and overrated foreigners.

They're heading down the route Scottish football went down and employing sub standard foreign dross.

The amount of English or uk nationals plying their trade in the so called worlds premier football competition is a joke.

I think you'd be lucky if there were 10 sales for greater than £1m from non Old Firm clubs to England or abroad in the last 10 years.

Gordon

S Fletcher

A Robertson

R Gauld

D Goodwillie

J McCarthy

R Anderson (though probably didn't reach that)

There might have been some funnies around the Hearts team, but that wouldn't have been youth development (Bednar, Skacel etc?).

It doesn't seem the best strategy, the respective perfomances of the teams producing those players after selling them (in particular the purple patches of Dundee United, Hibs and Hamilton with young players) and the cost involved in focus on youth isn't matched yet. It depends if Scottish football can become less of a soft touch (and that depends on our ability to tie down players before they became an attractive prospect down South).

I'd add Danny Wilson and Conor McGrandles...we're nearly at 10!

Danny Wilson was at the dead club.

I'd never heard of the other boy. I assume that £1m will have some clauses in there depending on him making it.

I'm all for development of improved facilities, but it would be to improve our first team, not to try make money selling to England (I guess that may naturally follow on from our first team being improved).

I'd agree that we haven't been the best at it in recent years, but clubs seem to be giving players more chances these days.

I suppose what I was trying to suggest is that if clubs can get deals like the below consistently then it could help improve the infrastructure of the clubs & therefore league.

Andreu - Hamilton to Norwich - £1,000,000.

Russell - Utd to Derby - £750,000

May - St Johnston to Sheff Wed - £800,00.

It'd be nice if we could get a player that gets a bidding war sufficient that we can name the price. That kind of talent comes along too rarely though (guess Craig Gordon was the last one). One sale of this magnitude would be massive for any SPL team outside Celtic. Instead you have Bristol City buying off Brentford for that price, two teams that had average attendances less than Aberdeen last year and have both played in League 1 within last 2 years.

So circa 75% of players in the EPL are non English.

No surprise really, when you see what it costs to sign home grown talent, when you can scout a players of comparable talent from else where in the world for a fraction of the cost.
