Sad news. Loved The Eagles. Especially Ol' 55.

With you there. I love driving with the roof down to that song, has such emotion to it.

I've always been a huge Eagles fan, but was gutted when they sacked Don Felder, he was/is some guitarist.

I won't speak ill of the dead but Glen Frey wasn't a likeable character, reflected maybe in the lack of coverage about his death...

Don Felder, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner all decent guys. Joe Walsh was out of his face half the time but could play the heavier parts and sing. Timothy B Schmidt couldn't believe his luck when invited to replace Meisner (who was bullied by Frey allegedly). Henley, a real talent, amazing songwriter, singer and drummer. Frey played rhythm guitar, co-wrote with Henley and could sing, a bit...but also allegedly pushed Felder, who wrote the music to Hotel California, third in the writing credits for the song, behind himself and Henley...well as I said, not a likeable guy in my opinion...

Frey was also the guy that made the band tick, the guy that pushed them in the studio, the guy that pulled it all together.

He was one of the principle song writers, did more than just co-write with Henley, and sang a bunch of their biggest songs. Arguably his perfectionism in the studio was critical to the slickness of their sound and their success.
