He learned from many locals, both black and white, that Mandela was far from a peace-loving, law-abiding, holier-than-thou citizen who was allegedly and mainly imprisoned just because of his skin colour and his anti-apartheid beliefs and actions, as the mainstream press wish you to believe. 

From behind bars and prior to incarceration, Mandela engaged in the arranging of the killings of many people who he felt went against his selfish beliefs and ideology. 

Furthermore, he was married to a murderer. They were made for each other. A match made in hell.

The South African government were running scared of a man who somehow managed to get international governments and mainstream media onside from his allegedly remote, pokey wee jail cell in relation to his anti-apartheid ideology, hence why he was eventually pardoned and subsequently released from prison. 

How he managed to do it, considering the jail had no external methods of communication, and we were led to believe he was living in squalor, is impossible without, of course, the help of others who were friendly with the government of the day.
