McPhee123
http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-britain-aberdeen-idUKKCN0WC09V A huge shock is on the cards in British football as a rank outsider is threatening to gatecrash the millionaire favourites. But it is Scottish hopefuls Aberdeen and not English league leaders Leicester who have bridged the biggest financial gulf.As far as squad values and wage bills are concerned, it would be a bigger upset if Aberdeen pipped Celtic to the Scottish title than if Leicester held off a pack of blue-chip chasers in the English top flight. Cracking article! I'd like to think McInness knows exactly what he's doing by finally mentioning the title chase in the press. Is it time for our players to step up? Do they believe the hype themselves now? Link to comment

Clydeside_Sheep
Havent read the full article yet, but is it really fair to describe us winning as a bigger shock than leicester winning? We are a team who has won it all domestically and with a modern european pedigree (we dont rely on exploits from our parents / grandparents generation for bragging rights, unlike sellick). Whereas leicester have never done anything before, they cant hold a candle to our honours list. Whats really the bigger shock - a team of our stature awaking from 2 decades of slumber*, or a nothing provincial club like Leicester (pumped up on TV money) winning the EPL for the first time ever? (* e.g. Liverpool havent won the top english league since 89-90; but if they won it next year, no-one would say it was a 'shock', they would say "Liverpool are back"). Link to comment
Bluto10
Leicester aren't pumped up on TV money CS min, I'd say LC winning is a much bigger shock. And the bookies odd at start of season back that up 1 Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
Less corruption daan saaaf so a lot less surprising to see one of the "minnows" win the title Well there is still plenty corruption but it is a lot more spread out between more sides, so it's "easier" for a minnow to slip their way though the net whilst they are all arguing with each other. Exactly, I can remember telling a tim supporting mate of mine last summer (yes I do have one) that the dons would push Celtic and have a genuine chance of taking the title. So this is not a shock to me, in fact I was expecting it. If LC go on and win the EPL it will be the biggest shock in the history of English football. Us winning the SPL title, whilst a surprise to many wouldn't be in my eyes. This time last year LC were on the brink of relegation, we have been building this current title tilt by consistently winning matches over the last couple of seasons. Link to comment
Guest the shepherd
The money thing is completely relative though. Leicesters wage bill - although outshone by quite a chunk by Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal etc etc etc, is still a pretty sizeable sum of dough - i.e. enough to attract a top top player - at the very least for a season before they're robbed off you by Man city, Chelsea, Arsenal etc etc etc. Aberdeen have spent £300,000 on one player since McInnes took charge of a team stuck in bottom six shittiness, Granted - all teams around him have even less to splash around - but relatively, we're not attracting a hugely more skillful player than anyone else in the league. we're all plucking from the same small pool of available out of contract players/loanees most of the time. Leicester can give a guy £130,000 a week if they wanted. When you have that sort of money available to spend on wages, there are enough shit hot players in the world who would be willing to play for you - regardless of your history. Not to mention the EPL is chock a block with games where teams take points off each other...sure ours is like that too amongst anyone outside of Celtic - buts just it; when you attempting to beat a team who 95% will win all game outside of those they play against you (and when they dont, people cannot believe it), the pressure to emulate on a comparatively tiny budget is immense. Hats off to Leicester - I fucking hope they win it; but us winning the SPL is a bigger deal...not just because I love us, and I'll cry rivers of joyous tears, but because itll be a miracle. The world will applaud us. Every now and again I watch that video of us all singing the Northern Lights at Parkhead after the Scottish cup win....imagine that after winning the league.Fantastic post min. Aberdeen winning the league would be a far greater shock than Leicester winning theirs when taking into consideration finances and fairness. Link to comment

Proud9
I dunno, I feel Leicester winning would be bigger shock. We just need 1 team to have a poor season and us a v.good one. Leicester needed like 8 teams to be poor and them to be v.good. Link to comment
newcastlered
Leicester were 2000/1. Aberdeen were what 66/1? If we won the league it's an incredible achievement - but not as incredible as Leicester doing it. Link to comment
TopDon
Budget has nothing to do with it, we have the best starting eleven in the country IMO. If we won the league not sure I would go as far to say it was a shock. At the beginning of the season we were expected to push Celtic for the title and we are doing exactly that. We were round about there last year, and will likely be in the mix next year as well. On the other hand everyone had Leicester down as being stick on relegation candidates. Link to comment
Tord31
Whichever team does it will be a shock! The other team will be forgotten about within 6 months. We desperately need Celtic to drop points in one or more of their next 3 matches. We need motivation to be at 7000% when we go to Tynecastle Link to comment
Chewie37
Since we won the league last there was only two winners, Celtic and Huns (deceased). Since the same year there has been 8 winners in England; Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Leeds, Man Utd, Blackburn, Chelsea and Man City, so I'm reckoning that it's definitely more of a shock/upset/achievement for us..........shove Leicester right up yer poop chute Link to comment

If we need to win against Hearts to go above them then our arse will collapse. McInnes just needs to keep the team grounded and focused on winning the next game. As soon as we start focussing on what Celtic are doing we've lost the race. Link to comment

StandFree1982
The biggest shock is that the majority of the Media and those inside Scottish Football don't want Aberdeen to win the league. Despite it being the most positive thing to come out of Scottish Football in several decades. Even discounting the fact i'm an Aberdeen fan, i'd want the Dons to win the League for the benefit of everyone in Scotland outside of the Glasgow mob. Link to comment

I agree the media and establishment want the usual suspects to continue to dominate, but that isnt a shock surely. I think the majority of fans and the chairs of other clubs would be delighted to see us win it. It will totally refresh Scottish football in general. Link to comment
