Scotland Potential World Champions

I'm sure some of you lot will have seen this before. Someone, with far too much time on their hands, has gone through International Football history to work out who would be World Champion if football operated on a boxing-style title match format, continuously since England beat Scotland in the 2nd ever international match to win the title for the first time.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given that Scotland and England were pretty much the only ones playing football for the first few years the title swapped between the two of us repeatedly. A bit more surprising though is the fact that Scotland have won the title more than anyone else.

Even more surprising they could potentially become world champions again when we play Georgia in March. Georgia are the current holders, and if they beat or draw with Turkey this week they will come to Hampden as Unofficial World Champions and give Scotland the chance to become UFWC for the first time since 1967 (coincidently we last became UFWC when we beat England (real world champions) 3-2.

Of course now I have said this no doubt Turkey will win but thems the breaks.

Here are the top 20 or so UFWC as listed on the Official Unofficial Football World Championship Website
