Pudgie
Fit the fuck is the rule now? The free kick can be taken from where the offside player touches the ball. What the fuck does that mean? Referee's discretion? When the offended team decide? Linesman's decision? Surely it could lead to awhoora timewasting if it's when the player touches the ball. Be intentionally offside, defender lumps it up to the corner, and only make a break for the ball once there's pressure. Link to comment

No real advantage to the defending team anyway. Link to comment

Chewie37
^ it would make things far more entertaining if it happened. There would be a season of very high scoring games until folk got used to it, would also prolong a few careers for some players who wouldn't have to run as much Link to comment
donsdaft
It used to be just my Mother who didn't understand the offside law.Now I reckon it's 75% of the fans and, I strongly suspect, a higher percentage of the players. Personally I would just put it back to the way it was before they started fuckin about with it. When the ball is played forward, if you are in an offside position then you are offsides. Chewie37
They've added too much nuances to the rule, you can be in an offside position but you aren't offside if you aren't interfering with play or affecting the goalkeepers view. All pish, just get rid of it altogether Link to comment

beer gut
I'll rephrase that. If you're on the pitch, you SHOULD be interfering with play. Shite. I used to hate it when play would stop because a player miles away from the action was offside when the ball was played forward. Its sensible that you are only offside if you are affecting that particular passage of play i.e if you are close to the keeper or make an attempt for the ball. Keep the game flowing. Link to comment
donsdaft
Nae Shite The modern rule seems more suited to pundits with their endless playbacks than to the actual game.It must be getting more and more impossible to referree Edit: Apart from, obviously, in Scotland where the rule would be, red shirt = offside, green or blue shirt =play on. Aye right. Link to comment
