Dale
This survey is to determine whether fans of Aberdeen Football Club would be willing to donate money in the form of either one off payments or recurring monthly payments in order to 'fund a player'.The aim of the fund is to assist in the funding of a key player to the first team squad every 2 to 3 years. The main priority of the AFC Fund is to not have any impact on the budget of Aberdeen FC and to be seen as a bonus contribution to strengthen the squad. If the interest and willingness to donate is high enough, the idea will be proposed to Aberdeen FC and further advancements will occur. Dale
Did we not do this nonsense a few years back and raised £50.00? I'm unaware of this, however if this was the case then it doesn't sound like it was publicised enough as I've not heard anything about it, nor can I find anything online about it. The survey is purely to see if the idea is plausible rather than carrying it out. If the interest and responses from the survey are deemed great enough to make a difference (couple grand monthly) then the idea will get put into motion - as of now it is all theoretical. Dale
http://www.afc-chat.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=20662 The last post in that thread seems to sum it up: They had their charity football match that was basically the folk that run the site and their mates as nobody knew about it meaning little money raised and then that was it. Club got the pennies and that was the end!! The aim is to hopefully reach a wide audience through Aberdeen forums, word of mouth and social media. At the end of the day, I personally feel like it's worth looking into and if the interest isn't there then nothing will come of it! Link to comment

I already do make a one off payment to fund a player - its called a SEASON TICKET quite a novel approach you pay for this thing in June and it allows me into every league game for 10 months brilliant Idea Say we get this money together and buy a Paul Bernard? what happens then? Say we spend this money and the player has a massive dip of form and doesn't even get on the team sheet what happens then? 2 Link to comment

RUL
Fairly sure the club promoted the fund a don thing also on their website and match programme, there was a high profile example where someone got a player out of it...ours didn't work. Link to comment

Say we get this money together and buy a Paul Bernard? what happens then? Say we spend this money and the player has a massive dip of form and doesn't even get on the team sheet what happens then?Unfortunately, this is the risk that would be taken and hopefully the manager will be able to use the funds wisely. Say we spend this money and the player is a huge success, becomes our player of the year and bags x amount of goals a season. Life is a gamble and for a small monthly payment that is less than my phone bill, I personally wouldn't lose too much sleep about it (however I appreciate the fact that this isn't the same for everybody). As long as we continue to progress and build on recent successes then I would be happy to donate the money, even if it gives us a backup player that we can rely on to do a job. Link to comment

So subscribe to red lotto. You buy as many tickets as you want a month & the cash goes to the youth system. You can even take it a step further & nae bother cashing in the numerous £10 wins you get. I did cash in the £100 win I had a few years ago as it was my birthday & thought I deserved it. Link to comment

the sheep
For it to raise a significant amount it would need to be led and promoted by the club and management. You would need to have fund raising events and raffle off signed shirts and the likes over a period of a season. If I new the player we were signing with the cash and I thought he would be exciting signing then I would happily donate £100. If I could have the money returned or maybe even doubled if the player was then sold for a profit I would be even happier to part with more cash seeing at as some sort of investment. Link to comment
Panda
I wouldn't do it to fund a player. Millionaires like Stewart Milne should be doing that. It's the same as hearing Bono (worth $600 million), Bob Geldof ($150m), Chris Martin ($140m), and the likes telling us we should donate to help the poor. I would maybe support it for other projects. ie the foundation of Hearts is more the sort of thing we should be thinking about. Raising money that helped pay off the debts when the club was in trouble, at the moment helping to pay for the new main stand, and soon it will help buy a stake in the club. Or, use it for initiatives like helping the unemployed get tickets for games, or helping supporters clubs out with running buses, etc. But buy a player? Nah. Link to comment
HairyPie
Bob Geldof ($150m) Apologies for sauntering off-topic, though I find this statistic incredible. Mr. Geldof has over the years had limited personal success, how could he accumulate such a vast fortune? Perhaps the whole Live-Aid venture was commission based? Link to comment

HairyPie
not really limited success, finger in a lot of pies. Property, tv production companies etc. I was unaware Mr. Geldof possessed any business acumen at all. Let's hope the disheveled rapscallion supports The Dons, he could invest some of that finance with the club! Every day is indeed a schooling day. 1 Link to comment

Mr John
Pretty much this. Throw in a £50 shirt and a few pies, programmes and other shite I don't need. That's plenty. Yeah I was going to say the same, I buy merch and visit a couple of times a season, watch the games on BT, which is a rip-off, but at least pays toward Scottish Football and means I get to see the Dons more than I used to. Not all of us are in a position to visit as regularly, let alone fund the club. I find this modern kickstarter begging approach a bit embarrassing TBH. Yeah that too. How would you feel being the player "the fans paid for"? Massive scrutiny. Imagine having some of the mouthbreathers in our crowd shouting at you that you aren't "giving back their investment"? It would be like the world's worst version of Dragons Den, where shrewd business gurus like Deborah Meaden are replaced by three overweight cretins who live out of Greggs. NOPE. Link to comment
