ericblack4boss
Probably been done before, but new members may not have seen a thread Which players we almost signed went on to make us regret it. John Robertson (hearts) was a classic poacher in the mid 80s to mid 90s Willie Miller spent a whole summer trying to tie him down before giving up and turning his attention to Duncan shearer. Herman hriedersson (sp) the infamous quote from Aitken " he's no better than what we have" came back to haunt the man who signed koumbuare . Jonny Ekstrom, I recall Ferguson tried to get the swede in the mid 80s. Graham kavanagh , we spent what seemed like an eternity in a deadlock with stoke city all over an extra £50,000 we refused to pay. Went on to be as key player for Wigan in the EPL. Derek McInnes. When ebbe arrived he took tommy moller Nielsen from Ibrox as his assistant, he then persuaded ebbe to go for tnbe then rangers fringe player McInnes. What aren't vwrong I don't recall was it the fee or failure of McInnes to move. Colin Cameron, turned us down after Aitken told him he would be playing out if position as he was about to sign. He went on to be a good player at hearts and for Scotland. Link to comment

Cowie
Ferrie Bodde, If we had shelled out the 100k? you can almost guarantee he'd have been kicked into injury quicker than at swansea. Link to comment
dave_min
No no, we signed him Delighted to not remember who that was. Link to comment
cruzcampo3
Garry O'Connor and Kris Boyd Link to comment
The Hawk
Remember we tried to get a defender Reda Johnson but think we wanted to see him play in a trial first so he signed for Plymouth. Maybe not so much 'one that got away' but our failure to sign him led to Mark McGhee signing Jerel Ifil... Link to comment
zander
Maloney can't believe we let him go for being too small. Shame if he ends up back here having missed his best years. Link to comment
sooth_stander
Calderwood was after some Polish 19 yr old loon the summer he came to AFC, then decided "nope, he's too good for us, we don't have the players toplay with him." Vet Vitte, or something like that? Sunk like a stone anyway, which showed what a tit Calderwood was Link to comment
Jonty
I rememb we were linked with Robbie Winters from Utd in the late 90's. The stupid Jutes wanted heaps of cash (was it £800k or something ridiculous) and Billy Dodds in exchange so we laughed at them and told them to poke it. 5 Link to comment
The Boofon
Released Van der Ark as a youth as he was too small. Link to comment
Jonty
We were also continually linked with Kjell Oloffson from the same United vintage. Link to comment
The Oxford Don
Ally McCoist. We tried to sign him c. 1990 when he had his massive falling-out with Graeme Penis, but he refused to leave Ibrox. Would have fair put the cat among the pigeons that one. Link to comment
Mr John
We should have given Diana Ross a chance. Honestly, she missed ONE penalty... Link to comment
ericblack4boss
The story i heard about mccoist was that he never intended to sign clubs agreed fee mccoist even went as far as pen in hand to sign contract but then siad no ive changed my mind. Apparently just went through the whole process just to piss off souness Link to comment
ericblack4boss
Kjell olofsson was a good striker i would have had him at pittodrie in an instant Link to comment

I'm sure it was around the time Souness wanted Hateley and Mo Johnston as his first choice frontline pairing and it looked like fat Sally was on his way out. Sally was your typical hun cunt but he was fucking deadly in the box. If we'd signed him around that time I'm convinced we'd have won at least one league title. Link to comment

If anything, because we were all so heartily sick of him getting bigged-up by the Huns and their sycophantic media, McCoist may have been slightly underrated. He was as you say an absolutely lethal penalty box finisher. In my mind's eye he is always hanging around the penalty spot, waiting on a cutback, and whenever he got one you knew instantly where the ball was going to end up. Link to comment

You wonder how he would fare in today's game with so much emphasis on teams playing a lone striker as he always played as part of a front two. He was never one to run the channels all day but I'd say if he was at his peak now and playing in our team of this season he'd score double what Rooney does especially against (Celtic aside) the shocking calibre of today's SPFL defences. slinkyvagabond
No danger McCoist would ever have signed for AFC. Considering his best mate was famously done at Pittodrie and that he ran the Rangers dressing room there was really no danger he would ever have left. Make no mistake he is a total sociopath, maybe worse. Several players left Rangers and were glad to go to get away from the abuse and toxic atmosphere. He would deny it but Davie Robertson had a miserable time at Rangers regardless of how many trophies they won. It was that bad they once found him in tears. He was offered chances to leave but refused to go. I think it might have been part of the reason Laudrup left as well. Souness also grew tired of the antics. He obviously feels bitter about the wages players get now compared to when he played which is why he held out for as much cash as possible when he went back to Rangers. Horrible, horrible cunt. Horrible, horrible cunt.I don't doubt for a minute that he was a horrible cunt I've heard similar stories about him myself. He also shagged anything that moved despite being married with three kids (Patsy Kensit was the one that made the papers but she was just the tip of the iceberg he makes Tiger Woods look like a fucking monk). But I seriously doubt he "ran" the Rangers dressing room back then with big characters like Gough, Brown, Butcher, Hateley, Ferguson, Roberts, Stevens etc being around. I'm sure most of those guys would have given the fat cunt a slap if he'd tried to rule over any of them. In fact I'm sure I read an interview with him years ago in one of the papers where he admitted he had a couple of scraps with Gough in training that he came out on the wrong side of. By fuck when I look back that Rangers team were a horrible lot absolute cunts to a man. I remember their so called mantra of "The team that drinks together wins together". Cunts. Link to comment
