Which players we almost signed went on to make us regret it.

 

John Robertson (hearts) was a classic poacher in the mid 80s to mid 90s Willie Miller spent a whole summer trying to tie him down before giving up and turning his attention to Duncan shearer.

 

Herman hriedersson (sp) the infamous quote from Aitken " he's no better than what we have" came back to haunt the man who signed koumbuare .

 

Jonny Ekstrom, I recall Ferguson tried to get the swede in the mid 80s.

 

Graham kavanagh , we spent what seemed like an eternity in a deadlock with stoke city all over an extra £50,000 we refused to pay. Went on to be as key player for Wigan in the EPL.

 

Derek McInnes. When ebbe arrived he took tommy moller Nielsen from Ibrox as his assistant, he then persuaded ebbe to go for tnbe then rangers fringe player McInnes. What aren't vwrong I don't recall was it the fee or failure of McInnes to move.

 

Colin Cameron, turned us down after Aitken told him he would be playing out if position as he was about to sign. He went on to be a good player at hearts and for Scotland.

He was as you say an absolutely lethal penalty box finisher. In my mind's eye he is always hanging around the penalty spot, waiting on a cutback, and whenever he got one you knew instantly where the ball was going to end up.

You wonder how he would fare in today's game with so much emphasis on teams playing a lone striker as he always played as part of a front two. He was never one to run the channels all day but I'd say if he was at his peak now and playing in our team of this season he'd score double what Rooney does especially against (Celtic aside) the shocking calibre of today's SPFL defences.

I don't doubt for a minute that he was a horrible cunt I've heard similar stories about him myself. He also shagged anything that moved despite being married with three kids (Patsy Kensit was the one that made the papers but she was just the tip of the iceberg he makes Tiger Woods look like a fucking monk).

 

But I seriously doubt he "ran" the Rangers dressing room back then with big characters like Gough, Brown, Butcher, Hateley, Ferguson, Roberts, Stevens etc being around. I'm sure most of those guys would have given the fat cunt a slap if he'd tried to rule over any of them. In fact I'm sure I read an interview with him years ago in one of the papers where he admitted he had a couple of scraps with Gough in training that he came out on the wrong side of. By fuck when I look back that Rangers team were a horrible lot absolute cunts to a man. I remember their so called mantra of "The team that drinks together wins together". Cunts.
