Saul Niguez has just signed a 9 year contract with Athletico Madrid. Seems strange this day in age that a player would sign such a long contract and was wondering why. Is it to put his asking price up if another club come in for him?

Spanish teams/players all have release clauses in them.

Maybe the release clause goes down in relation to the time left on their contract and AM are just covering their investment.
