ericblack4boss
A few folk on here have mentioned that our squad now is up there with willie millers side quarter of a century ago. Thought I would list them both against either. For comparison. Goalkeepers. Snelders. LewisWatt. Rodgers Defenders. Wright. LoganConnor. ConsidineMcLeish. O Connor.Mckimmie. ReynoldsIrvine. ArnassonSmith. McKennaWatson Gregg. Harvie.Watson GrahamWinnie. Midfield. Grant. ChristieMason. ShinnieAitken. McLean.Kane. GMS.Richardson Tansey.Ten caat. Stewart. Forwards. Jess. MayShearer. RooneyBooth. StockleyPaatelainen. MaynardRoddie. Wright.S Thomson.Gibson. OK so the 92 squad was bigger but how does it compare with the present day one. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
I think another good comparison would be with the 1990 squad. Link to comment

aberdeen1970
I think that 92 squad has a better defence and better forwards . On balance I like the mobility of the current midfield. 92 edges it for me but it's good that we finally have a squad that bears comparison Link to comment
BWG
Aye the 92 squads defence is way better than our current one. Oh for an Irvine. 1 Link to comment

King Street Loon
I think you're comparisons are way off.The players don't match up positionally. It's a very hard comparison to make.I still think the 90's squad would comfortably beat today's team. Link to comment

ericblack4boss
Ksl they are not matched up exactly positionally but i thought you would realise that. Ive given you too much credit all these years. Bwg. Go fuck yourself . connor played left back on occassions just like youve been an arsehole on numerous occasions Link to comment
Sonoftherock
Class of '92 would win about 7 or 8 nil... and probably wouldn't need to break sweat. Quite sad when you see that. Shows how far Scottish football has fallen. Link to comment
Dal Riata Don
The 92/93 squad are miles ahead in goalkeeping, defense and forwards. The only area where I'd pick one or two of the current lot [shinnie & Christie - thought not ahead of Grant as listed] is in midfield and that would be to compensate with the current pace and running of our game. thomsod
Is jimmys top squad more comparable?I think the league in 92/93 and maybe even in jimmys days were a higher standard than is now. 2 Link to comment

To be honest, I think the current class would easily beat Jimmys lot. Some absolute abominations in that team. Hard to pin-point when exactly the standard dropped in scottish football. Was probably co-incident with the SKY revolution of English football. That would have began around '92... so i think EB4B's comparison is an interesting one. I reckon it probably took until the late 90's early 00's for the standard to really bottom out. I was a season ticket holder from 97-00 and the standard was utterly woeful. Some absolute shocking player at Pittodrie: Mackie, Young brothers, McGuire, McAllister, Lilley, Perry, Solberg, etc... I remember watching us a few times against Dundee united and at the time, Maurice Malpas, who was approaching his 40th, was usually the best player on the park. He was fat and slow, but read the game well and was light-years ahead in terms of technical ability. At his age, he shouldn't have been able to compete. Link to comment

Rooney. Maynard. Stewart. May. GMS. Wright. 2017 Pattelainen. Shearer. Booth. Jess. Mason. 1992. Nicholas. Gillhaus. Jess. Booth. Van der ark. 1990. I'd certainly say the 92 forwards would all easily be first pics today. Link to comment

ebbe
The class of 92/93 would pump this lot. The current crop are screaming for a Bisconti/Heikennen and I think McInnes has assembled a pool that couldn't be bettered. Link to comment
RUL
Yeah I think our 92 team would win too. Powerful team. Link to comment
OddJob
Yeah as good a squad that McInnes has assembled, as said that 92/93 team would destroy them. Mason, Grant, Rico and Connor in midfield and With Shearer, Jess & Paatelainen upfront, oocha fucking beastie. Fucking travesty we never won the league with that team Link to comment
BWG
I'll put my tin hat on here and say that overall Rooney, May and Christie are actually a better attacking force than Dunc, Mixu and Jess. Jess would obviously still walk into our team like. Link to comment
