It's not as if the players we've signed this summer were unknown to Mcinnes, infact all of them have played in Scottish football before except Maynard who Derek managed a few years ago.

All managers sign players who don't work out or turn out to be crap.

 

Without knowing what a player is costing in wages and so on, we can't judge them all the same.

 

Eg.

Rooney probably arrived on a decent wedge and was a known entity. Same with Stevie May.

Stockley was probably on absolute peanuts and therefore always a wildcard/gamble signing.

I think if you can get a 50% hit rate with your signings you've done well. Even Fergie had some proper howlers at AFC and Man Utd.

I'm pretty sure Russ Richardson and Deek work together on it. Yes we do often go for players that Deek knows already but someone still has to monitor those players, see how they are doing, talk to their agents, negotiate contracts and all that stuff.

 

It would be interesting to know what Russ Richardson's specific role actually is. If his job is to handle contract renewals and recruitment he seems to be doing quite well - if its to build a scouting network across the country and to find hitherto unheard of gems and get them to the club then maybe he can be criticised - but is that really his role?

 

From what I recall we had absolutely fuck all scouting network at all when Brown came to the club and the old wage thief used his own "network" of contacts to find players to bring in.

 

Anybody know if the club ever reinstated a scouting budget and built up a network again?
