Did you get it sorted?

Booking.com will force the hotel to find you another room at the same star rating or above and the hotel will pay the difference if it is more expensive. If the hotel blames booking.com phone booking.com direct and they will sort the hotel out for you.

Booking.com can't really be at fault, they charge hotels 15% commission so as Manboobs say always book direct. If the price is more phone up and tell the hotel it's cheaper on booking.com.

A hotel can avoiding any mistakes like this by simply using a channel manager and not employing incompetent staff.

The hotels sell rooms to sites like booking.com at a discounted rate to keep their occupancy rates high, boooking.com then sell them on to you and make profit. If the hotel overbooks then it's their fault NOT booking.com, even if they try to claim it is. It's the same as flights overbooking. Hotel sees it's now a busy weekend so sell all their rooms at max price then claim they didn't receive your online booking.....

Sorry but the first part of this is false. Hotels do not sell rooms to booking.com. Booking.com are a travel agent in effect and sell rooms on behalf of the hotel and charge the hotel commission which is typically between 12 and 20%. The rates on booking.com will normally will be no cheaper than on the hotels own website and 99% of the time the hotel would match or better the price if not. Makes no sense for them not to.

Also booking.com can be at fault at times. The majority of larger hotels and certainly most if not all chains have integration with the booking.com system and once the booking is made online it automatically updates into the hotels system. There can be faults with this at times which can cause issues and bookings not showing.

But yes a lot of hotels will overbook by a few rooms to account for no shows and cancellations in the same way airlines do. If you end up in the situation they've overbooked and they try and outbook you to another hotel stand your ground a bit. You'd be surprised what you'll be offered to keep you happy.

Thanks for posting this Don Fonte. I had booked a hotel in October for a week away with Booking.com. Got in touch with the hotel and got an upgraded version of the All-Inclusive (International brands) for £50 cheaper than what I had booked (local all-inclusive).

Booking.com automatically email the hotel also. It is also the hotel who is responsible for the system that automatically updates their diary. Would be a one in a million situation I'm sure if it was booking.com's fault.

But aye fuck them and book direct. They charge most places 15% commission.

Visit Scotland should make their own equivalent at 5% commission to cover costs and use excess profits to benefit tourism but that's another matter....

There are numerous occasions the booking.com system goes down and the bookings don't update and no email is sent. When that happens booking.com will go through them manually and resend but human error at either end then and the bookings fucked. Although plenty hotels I'm sure try and use this as an excuse at times when overbooked. Just make sure you've a copy of your confirmation handy when checking in.

Aye booking.com is just a monster now. The amount of commission they get is unreal. Fuck them.

No problems. Can't complain at that. A lot of hotels will give you wee extras for booking direct and quite often you'll be assigned nicer rooms and certainly more likely to get free upgrades.
