My Guy Johan Venegas Starting Forward For Costa Rica

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm watching the kids with the USA losing to my wife's Colombian side. But up next is Costa Rica and Mexico with Johan Venegas slated to start up front for Costa Rica. He's making 3120 pound sterling a week on loan from Minnesota to  Saprissa in Costa Rica. His contract is up and he's available for a free move. He'll probably make less since he and Minnesota had issues

At 29 years of age he's got 10 goals in 49 NT appearances. So okay not a guy coming to Aberdeen, but with Christie and McLean gone a guy can dream. This match is going down in Monterrey , Mx. Venegas is wearing #11.

Good pass by from the midfield to Joel Campbell, brought the goalie out but Campbell didn't get a shot. 2 minutes later Campbell scores on a long header. Crazy how well this little country always competes, looks like Johan with a hockey assist in the 29th minute.

Guzman hits back with a bounce in off the cross bar for Mexico in 33rd with a short cross through the box.

Mexico Defender hand ball in the box in the 43rd minute... penalty kick for CR. Ruiz converts. 2-1 CR Johan in on the action, no assists, no goals but intense and playing hard like the rest of his teammates. More of a guy to fall in behind Joel, but can run out too for a long ball or on a counter.

I've always been impressed with this little country. They got the same thing going countries like Serbia and Lithuania do with basketball.

In the 56th minute it was one sub to another. Damm made a move, shook his man, and dropped a dime to his teammate Martin for the goal. Mexico got embarrassed and subbed them to start the half.

Mexico bringing in my avatar Raul to try and win in... 61st minute. Mexico feels more in control, but CR is feisty and hangs.

Matarrita in for CR in the 66th. Good left back in MLS.

My bad it was leal and campbell being subbed at that point. Mexico controlled the last 10 or 15 minutes. One header that was close from Raul and a good save by the CR keeper late to keep it close. CR plays hard. If the talent on Mexico could ever gel and complete as hard as CR they'd be elite.

Glad to see Sporting KC forward Russell out there for Scotland, but obviously nobody can be happy giving up the lead to Israel in the 2nd half. Johan probably makes sense for a team in Scotland willing to pay him a decent wage that needs an attacking mid. He's not a striker or primary goal scorer, but he's a vet with game. He looked like he belonged out there against a very talented opponent.

Shinnie?

I would rate shinnie better overall as a cdm/lb. Bryson cant stay on the pitch so he's out. Lewis will be better someday.

But johan can play attacking mid, both wings, and some forward. He's the exact type of player sorely missing.

It's not really about johan, more the concept of johan. An available healthly vet that costs less than bryson... and can help create and score goals.

Sucks because not only is the budget limited but the funds aren't being maximized by chasing the best talent the club could sign.

These outside of the uk options probably could have gotten the club group stage money too. Being stingy probably cost money.
