V for Vendetta
Since we've fuck all games at the moment and we all like laying out how our team should line up for the next game, thought i'd start a thread on the geeky area of tactics and formations and shit like that. have even got around to finding an app for this shit https://www.buildlineup.com/shared/5c3b2e6e138c092e24acb5b5 (if only i can work out how to share the fucking thing properly...) aberdeen1970
Maybe merge it with the 4-2-3-2 thread to give this one a bit of a boost Link to comment

V for Vendetta
I'm just bored as fuck hanz. Ill to boot and no energy to do anything better. edit: fixed it a bit now let the debate commence (and the slagging continue) Link to comment
V for Vendetta
worth trying? Link to comment
aberdeen1970
It will be 4-2-3-1. The type of left back we get in will determine whether we play with a second striker behind the front man or a midfielder. Having Lowe allowed him and Logan to help the 2 in midfield allowing for a more attacking player as the '10'. The team practically picks itself at the moment. I assume Considine will revert to left back in the event we can't get one. The only debate is how best to perm 2 from 3 between GMS, McGinn and McLennan in the wide areas. Link to comment

He will need to do a lot more than just one good half of football but he was the difference in that game. We weren't winning it without his contribution. Link to comment

Probably will be 4-2-3-1 as McInnes nearly always reversts to that. But could stick with 4-4-2 for the Stenny game I'd guess. However... what else should McInnes be considering? Link to comment

Assuming we sign and sell no one I think it's fairly straight forward Lewis LoganDevlin McKenna Considine /Hoban Shinnie Ferguson McGinn /McLennan May/Wilson GMS Cosgrove After that you've got Reynolds, Gleeson, Wright, Campbell and that's about it. We need bodies in. Link to comment

However... what else should McInnes be considering?I don't think we've got the personnel to play 3 at the back. We can play 3 Centre backs but we don't have wing backs we have wingers. After that there's only really variants of 442 and 433. Link to comment
AllyDon
worth trying? Some fucker is a solid left back. Plenty of pace down the wing and a great crosser of the ball Does goals too I heard. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
I'm also not sure why we'd drop GMS and McLennan to play May out wide on the right. Link to comment

We need a minimum of two new players in this window. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
I forgot about Ball. He'd be on the bench. I'd kinda given up on Ross and Forrester to be honest. Ross getting long term injuries at the wrong time in his Aberdeen career. Link to comment

Just used the starters from the last few games really. GMS ahead of McGinn or May in that formation I think. Point was more about the shape of the team. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
It's more or less the shape of the team now except you've withdrawn the attacking midfielder Link to comment
V for Vendetta
It's more or less the shape of the team now except you've withdrawn the attacking midfielder I think 4231 and 433 are pretty different tbh, in terms of how the players defend and go forward. Link to comment
aberdeen1970
In a 433 you end up with one pivot and two runners. I think in that formation Gleeson would be better as the pivot with Shinnie and Ferguson as the runners. I think we end up playing this way a lot whether by accident or design against the sides McInnes thinks are good. Against lesser teams I think it's a little defensive and there can be a big gap between the midfield and the attack leaving them a bit isolated and easy to defend against. A more attacking midfielder in the mix gives them something else to think about and deal with. Link to comment
