Since we've fuck all games at the moment and we all like laying out how our team should line up for the next game, thought i'd start a thread on the geeky area of tactics and formations and shit like that.

The type of left back we get in will determine whether we play with a second striker behind the front man or a midfielder.

 

Having Lowe allowed him and Logan to help the 2 in midfield allowing for a more attacking player as the '10'.

 

The team practically picks itself at the moment. I assume Considine will revert to left back in the event we can't get one.

 

The only debate is how best to perm 2 from 3 between GMS, McGinn and McLennan in the wide areas.

If Wilson maintains the form he showed at Livi he will be pushing to get into the starting 11 on a regular basis again. He will need to do a lot more than just one good half of football but he was the difference in that game. We weren't winning it without his contribution.

I don't think we've got the personnel to play 3 at the back. We can play 3 Centre backs but we don't have wing backs we have wingers.

 

After that there's only really variants of 442 and 433.

I wouldn't. Just used the starters from the last few games really.

 

GMS ahead of McGinn or May in that formation I think.

I think 4231 and 433 are pretty different tbh, in terms of how the players defend and go forward.

In a 433 you end up with one pivot and two runners. I think in that formation Gleeson would be better as the pivot with Shinnie and Ferguson as the runners. I think we end up playing this way a lot whether by accident or design against the sides McInnes thinks are good.

 

Against lesser teams I think it's a little defensive and there can be a big gap between the midfield and the attack leaving them a bit isolated and easy to defend against. A more attacking midfielder in the mix gives them something else to think about and deal with.
