uni_don
FA left fearing the 'Beckham factor' in rival US bid for 2018. I'm too young to remember the 1994 World Cup (was 7 at the time) so I can't really comment on this. Do you think the US staging it in 2018 instead of England make a better tournament? And I wonder what Beckham would think about his image being used to beat England? Link to comment
cgs1706
I reckon the fact that the US had it recently (in World Cup terms) would probably hinder them... was '66 the last time England had it? Link to comment
boaby
66 eng70 mex74 west ger78 arg82 esp86 mex90 ita94 usa98 fra02 jap/kor06 ger mexico had it twice in 16 years s I wouldn't imagine there'd be a fuss about the US having it in 2018. Plus it usually goes Europe then elsewhere then Europe again, so it should be outside Europe in 2018 anyway. Link to comment

boaby
well in that case I suppose England are due one. Not that many countries in Europe can hold a World Cup on their own and Spain, Italy, Germany, France have all had a shotty more recently than the English. Link to comment

glasgow sheep
I thought they had ditched the idea of rotating around the continents, although I have a feeling it may now go: europe, rest of world, europe, rest of world etc Link to comment
uni_don
Definitely up till now it's been said 2018 will be in Europe, with most people saying England seeing as they lost out to Germany for 2006. Link to comment
Guest TenementFunster
So the US are going to use his image. As a skirt wearing, g-string wearing, one-trick-pony, bush pig shaggin (Rebecca Loos, I mean really!), pussy whipped, stick shaggin, no-user? Link to comment
snoyl
I hope they do use Beckham and USA gets the world cup. I think that would be funny as f*ck to see McLarens face (if still in charge) I feel sorry for Beckham now that he has been disowned when its not really his fault his wifes a media grapping twig. BTR
mexico had it twice in 16 years s I wouldn't imagine there'd be a fuss about the US having it in 2018. Mexico only got it in 86 cos Colombia f*cked it up at the last minute. In other words World Cup 86 was meant to be in Colombia. In saying that though, I wouldn't have anything against USA getting it again. Link to comment

I wouldn't have anything against the US hosting it, though I think 2014 could head over that way, so England probably more likely. I don't understand why they can't have a world cup hosted by the UK though. It's not as if FIFA are trying to make Japan and S. Korea join into one association because they joint hosted it.... Failing that, England in 2018 for me. Link to comment
swaddon
From what I can remember of it, USA 94 was the worst World Cup of my lifetime. Some games were kicking off in the middle of the night (our time), some teams were forced to play in the midday sun to accomodate TV in Europe, and the final was pish. Link to comment

Can remember the Republic of Ireland playing a midday game in Orlando (v Mexico I think) were you actually wondered if a player might drop dead in the heat. If I recall correctly Tommy Coyne did actually collapse on the flight. Link to comment
