Changing Energy Suppliers

So, was paying £170 per month with Eon for both gas and electricity, which I thought was extortionate.

 

Then, signed up with them guys from Look After My Bills, who automatically switch you onto a different energy supplier every year if they can find you a better deal. So, they moved me to iSupply Energy, switched over on April 8th.

 

Next thing, Eon whack me with a final bill of £383. This after increasing my direct debit from £153 to £170 in November. They gave me itemised accounts for the last 6 months, which you'd need a degree in understanding energy bills to comprehend. Fucked if I'm paying it, then can send round their heavies if they want, they'll get telt.

 

Anybody else had grief when leaving energy suppliers? Question I am asking Eon is, why did you only increase my DD by £17 in Nov if I was clearly underpaying?

You'll have a daily charge + a charge per unit consumed. Both for you electric and gas.

 

You should be able to work out pretty easily what you should've paid.

Is it maybe the case that, as they average out your monthly payment over the course of a year, so you're probably underpaying for the winter months and overpaying for the summer months, but it all equals out over the course of a year, but, as the last 6 months have been winter months, that's why I'm in hock by £383? And if I'd left Eon in approx 6 months time, my account would have balanced out?

They "predict" what you're going to use in winter so they increase your amount monthly. They say that they use the build up of cash to compensate the difference between your usage in summer and winter.

 

It never works. I'm always hundreds of quid in credit with edf. They will eventually give you that back, but reluctantly and usually not till the end of the year. 

 

£170 seems steep. We're only £80 for both. 

 

Edit - just checked and we're down to £71 a month.

Did you take a meter reading when you switched from eon to iSupply?

 

If you did it’ll be very easy (as parkie said) to work out what you are due.

My electricity bill is on average $40 a month here in Oregon..this is a public untility though not privatized.

Yep had a little sideline in Norway and we talked to Tesla about being their distributors. The technology is there and it's not so expensive, but you're putting lots of different components together rather than one supplier. Definite gap in the market which we looked at.
