Which players did you want the club to sign but they never did.

For me

Pat McGinlay, always rated him as an attacking midfielder at Hibs.

 

Tommy Coyne an underated striker with a goalscoring record only bettered by Larsson, McCoist, Robertson and Boyd. Scored goals at every club he played for and wouldve been a great addition to us.

Campbell Money, before Snelders arrived i was hoping that the StMirren keeper was the replacement earmarked for Jim Leighton.

Long before oldco even thought of it we were supposedly very close to signing Hateley (from Portsmouth for £900k iirc) late 83/early 84. McGhee had told Fergie he was off at the end of the season and Hateley was to be his replacement. For whatever reason it didnt come off and Stench joined AC Milan in the summer. Knowing what we know now he is an odious cretin but it would have been a stunning signing to pull off at that point.

 

Even earlier in the 80s I wondered why we never took a chance on Andy Ritchie from Morton. He was always a bit on the heavy side but contrary to fans opinion in those days he had no difficulties with stamina. Absolute genius with a dead ball.

They went for Campbell Money but st Mirren were having none of it. Snelders turned out half decent anyway.

Or even at the start of his time at Dundee.

 

I recall actively demanding this but obviously Calderwood and McGhee were more than happy to have Barren Mackie terrorising defences week in week out.

He seems to be out of favor with Celtic now..spend some dosh 500k- 750k and see if we can get him.

And did Aitken not go for Cameron im sure i recall Cameron quoted as being at pittodrie for talks and saying that there was "something didnt feel right"

Aye maybe at the time having a manager whos hair colour fluctuated from yellow to maroon didnt help

Think you are thinking of Paul Mariner. Hateley usurped him for a place in the England team

It’s funny I’m probably one of the few on here who actually saw that Morton team of the early 80’s and well remember some of the upsets particularly at Greenock but Ritchie doesn’t stand out in my memory as an individual player. Happy to take SAF judgement over mine of course.

Should have signed Maloney, Robson, Armstrong, Souttar all before other teams did.

Left St Mirren, off to the States before it fell through and getting a reprieve with Hibs who were in the Championship.

 

6 months after we signed Kenny McLean from the same team. We could have had him for compo.

Hignett was brilliant for the short spell he was with us. Always remember watching the 3-2 Celtic game back on Sky and the stat came up that we scored 3 goals with only two shots on target due to Blinkers outrageous own goal.

 

Think they missed about 10 pens aswell if I remember.
