graham
Great to see young Miko Virtannen make his full debut for Aberdeen today.Really pleased for the young Finn.People always saying why do you go to youth games, reserve games, friendlies.Well you see players progress and it is good to see a player you liked and followed make the grade. One of the last games I saw before the shutdown was Arbroath v Partick Thistle at a very windy Gayfield, and he was outstanding in midfield as Arbroath won 2-1.The Arbroath fans loved him and he was man of the match every other week. The loan spell at Arbroath worked and Miko got his reward this afternoon.Speaks perfect English, devoid of cliches, in a slight Jan Molby style Liverpudlian lilt ,having been a youth player at Everton. Was pwoud of the boy weally pwoud. 2 Link to comment

Hagi's pubic hair
Lets hope he's given a good chance to improve in the 1st team. 1 Link to comment
Tord31
I hope he is given at least 2 starts this season to judge him properly. 2 Link to comment
graham
Spot on.You can only judge a player properly playing from the start. Today was a nice introduction and recognition for Miko. Now the goal for him is a place in the starting eleven. Link to comment
Tord31
I also rate him highly. I would never have predicted the rise of Shankland, Harvie or Rose but I would predict Virtanen will come good. I hope he doesnt need to take a step down like the three above. 1 Link to comment
graham
It is fascinating to watch players progress and be continually surprised at those who make it and those who don't.Frank Ross ! Still think he was a class act,now in Dutch league with Go Ahead Eagles in second tier.He could have been a contender Link to comment
RUL
Think miko may turn out to be a championship level player but will be interested to see. Link to comment
graham
Indeed RUL,players get a game, but if they don't score or make an impact, they find their level.Declan McManus gambled on move to Fleetwood Town scored early but did not work out and now he has played for just about every team in the Scottish Championship. graham
I read that today too.No luck at all in his career. His free kick goal against Rangers is just as good as James Maddison's against Rangers.Frank's goal was in a losing cause,James Maddison's was a last minute winner at the Beach End. Sliding Doors of football ! 1 Link to comment
North_Andy_Dandy
I’d like to see him get some more game time but it is an area we’re well covered in so I’d doubt he’d even get a start by the end of the season. Contracts up in the summer so I’d be surprised to see him still here next season. Link to comment
sheepcrooky
My loon who used to work in the AFC shop said he was a top guy. One of the few young players (before they moved to Westhill) that would acknowledge and talk to everyone. 1 Link to comment

He has given a debut to quite a few this season, though thinking about it that was one of the KPIs cormack spelled out eh? Good point Millertime. The circumstances today simply presented a good moment to give Miko his bow in the first team.Dave Cormack and his Americanisms spelled out in Garthdee Doric is for a whole other page !!! That was a long, long journey to these five minutes. He is now Miko Virtannen,Aberdeen player. As I said, that was for all these games at Glebe Park on a Monday night,Cappielow on a Monday afternoon. graham
Connor Barron. Tiny, but would fight a lion.Think there's only been one informal Reserve friendly and young players like Ethan Rosson loan at Raith Rovers or not playing at all.Think the youth team only had the odd game.Hard time to be a young player. daytripping
I know Miko very well, really down to earth class guy, as the person said above would find time to chat to anyone, in fact he loves a chat, such a nice person. So glad he got his chance and hope he kicks on from it, Arbroath fans really took to him. I think he'll make it. 1 Link to comment
graham
Thoroughly agree. The Arbroath fans worshipped him .Sang his name in praise. He ran the show that afternoon at Gayfield. The freezing windy weather not a problem to the man from Finland ! Link to comment
Tommy
When you look back to Cooper, Simpson, Black, Hewitt etc, age should be no barrier. All these talented players needed was a manager who had confidence in playing them. 1 1 Link to comment

I remember the Dons playing at Gayfield, was the worst weather ever but loads of crowd trouble, a dons fan was handcuffed to a railing but the police got attacked everytime they tried to take him away. Happier simpler times. Must have been about 30 years ago. Great day out. ?? Link to comment
