Cormack Q&A

Not me but I remember seeing the post, however I do believe there is some interest already, with interested parties making contact with the club.  Those at the club have some names that interest them to, it'll come down to finances obviously but there is also talk of a structural shift in the set up at the club whether that means a DoF with a good coach or someone like Glass with an experienced number 2 and/or a DoF I am unsure.

Disaster written all over it

The talk of the need to create a Director of Football role is just wrong. A good manager at a club the size of AFC doesn't need one, not that the club can afford one anyway.

Source talent (scouting and recruitment), prepare and develop the talent (coaching) and getting them to perform (management) are the key functions of "the football side of the operation".

Football has evolved so now we have "sports scientists", data analysts, S & C specialists and others involved in player preparation (following new performance measurement practises) but many of these support roles can be contracted. A sound basic organisation structure is required, not a DoF. The former is free, the latter costs money and very big money if he was ever going to be able to make a tangibly positive difference.

Agree that we don’t need a DOF. What we need is a manager and coach who do not remove natural ability from a player to suit their tactics, and a decent scouting system.

One of the many tragedies about McInnes is formulaic thinking.

His ego is so big that he reckons he can come up with managerial masterstrokes.

His ignorance is so deep that he adheres rigidly to preset plans, as if whatever his current notion of what good tactics might be is the key to success.

Many good managers (including the best) have preset ideas about how the game should be played. The greatest managers have an adaptability and flexibility that the likes of McInnes doesn't have the intelligence for. They deploy footballers according to their individual talents e.g. Eric Black's great energy and speed to lose his marker by sprinting laterally to each wing to receive the pass from the full back,  something DUFC got Kevin Gallacher to do solely for the reason of wearing out the defensive opposition more than receiving the ball.

McInnes rigidly sticking to his flavour-of-the-month tactical ideas don't work and have never worked. He chops and changes too much, against different oppositions and over time, in wholesale team structures and formations. His biggest crimes are threefold; not having any idea of what a winning formation might be, not playing people in their optimum positions and most fatally, not having an eye for a competent footballer. His dud recruits don't just fail because they're technically useless but mostly because they're mentally weak. A manager who is a loser himself isn't going to recognise what a winning mentality looks like and so it's no surprise how many wimps have played under him over the whole period of his tenure.

A lot of accuracy in this I think

God bless, glad someone gets it.

Stephen Glass with a DoF is my guess, & my “fear” too.

Think he’d be a terrible appointment.

As much as I want a change, I’d maybe rather keep McInnes than appoint Stephen Glass.

Surely to fuck we can do better & don’t have to cow-tow to Atlanta to the extent that we take on their failed stand-in manager to give him some experience?

It’s as worryingly simplistic as it is accurate.

Looks like we will have a good few weeks without a match from March into April, great opportunity for Dave to do his thing with the pressure off of the team.

You're probably right.

Ps has the Scottish Cup been cancelled yet, the quiet period above would have been a good time to play some of the matches ?

Then again the SFA are probably still attempting to arrange that piss up at the brewery.

Date for League One and League Two return is to be confirmed this week. Then add on 14 days for training before matches recommence.

No return date for highland league being discussed which poses a small problem for the scottish cup as the 2nd round might have to wait for lockdown to end to be completed.

Folk are suggesting that during the next 2 week break would be a good time to reschedule the Q & A.

Perhaps but don't think Cormack has the balls.

Great at business but showing lack of spine as a football chairman.

Really believe that the next time we'll hear from DC will be at season ticket renewal grovel time.

I hope I'm wrong for the sake of the club going forwards and he demonstrates leadership soon ?

Well tonight’s the night ??

do you think it will be a positive one for “ fan cormack”

Depends whether a range of questions are addressed, including the odd controversial one, or whether the questions accepted are reasonably "safe".

If the former prevails, and DC deals with them, then it will be a positive outcome.

I have asked why DM was allowed to remain in post for so long, when the performances in the pitch had been on the wane for some time. I don't expect to be one of the questions answered, but you never know.

He’s gone. Better late than never.
