Barry Robson

Recommended Posts

Maybe should have placed this in the new manager thread but on reflection, it maybe deserves a thread of it own. Mods, feel free to merge it if you like.

In terms of him taking over as an interim manager or even full time, what has Robson’s done since he hung up his boots? I think he co manages the U17s with Scott Anderson but in terms of the 1st team, what does he do?

I’ve heard it banded about that he’s 1st team coach - if so, why is he not in the dug out during games? Sheerin is, is he 1st team coach?

In terms of his career and standing within the game, he should have cut his teeth in the managerial hotseat by now (what’s he, 42?) and been ready to step into DMs shoes but I can’t see what he’s done to warrant getting mentioned as his successor.

Nope.

More of the same, made in McInnes' mould. A rangers fan from Inverurie who played for Celtic, probably the worst person to get in if we want to at least try punch above our weight.

I get the impression he's probably happy enough doing his coaching.

There have been jobs in that past that I thought he (or Sheerin) might go for but he never seems to be linked.

Maybe he doesn't want to be a manager?

He’s done (as it studying for) his UEFA Pro licence so you’d have thought managing was where he was headed?

For example, I’d expect his ex team mate Scott Brown to go straight into the managerial hotseat somewhere next season, at age 35.

Just seems strange that he’s never taken the plunge.

Maybe Brown will cut his teeth at St Mirren when Goodwin moves on!

You think Scott Brown will be a manager next season? ?

My impression is he’s below Sheerin in the pecking order at Pittodrie.

As for management I’m a bit surprised, given his more than decent playing career, that someone hasn’t taken a punt on him as manager. A Dunfermline, or a Falkirk or an Inverness for example.

I can’t get past his comment when he said “hopefully we can get back and push for that 3rd spot”.

With someone who had a great will to win on the park, I was surprised to hear him say that.

I also saw a RED TV interview which was about 10 minutes, and his only response to every question was work hard, work hard. No real insight.

I’ve no idea why, I just don’t think he’d be a great manager.

Who's to say that he hasn't tried but wasn't successful for whatever reason? At 42, he does need to get his finger out if he wants to try management. Although I suppose (if rumours are true) if Duncan Ferguson is being groomed by Ancelotti to take over when he leaves, he'll be about 52 when he gets his first managerial job.

Sheerin of course was player manager with Arbroath. And will be 47 this year. I doubt he would have left the Arbroath job to earn less money so maybe Aberdeen U20s manager is seen as  > managing a lower league club

A current player has said that if Robson was in charge the players would be fitter and he is more tactically aware,

When Robson was freed by Rangers he went back to work for his father on the building site, a legendary Aberdeen fan, delivered stuff to the site they were on and he said to Robbo, "  you will be signing for Aberdeen now"

The reply was " I wouldnt play for those cunts if they were the last team on earth"

I would fear Robson would be a Hun Dmc clone,

Which player said that?

If Robson had managed a lower league team and had demonstrated that he had something about him, then perhaps we could consider him.

However with zero first team management experience and only a "work hard" ethic, then it's a no from me.

How about Petrie at Montrose, taken them into the first division and pushing for back to back promotions this season. Most definitely over achieving given the budget he has at his disposal. If we are going to consider Robson, why would we not considered Petrie?

Exactly, why Robson is being touted as our saviour/someone who will get us playing amazing football every week and winning things is beyond me.

No idea what Robson’s like as a coach and don’t claim to be in the know either. However, he will be another Largs type and therefore probably follow the same approach as DM. Cormack appears to be about the brand of football and therefore I suspect he wouldn’t be appointing someone that’s worked closely with DM, or has that mentality/outlook. Can’t see an interim either. Think DM stays til the end of the season and (hopefully) gets punted immediately following that...not Robson in any capacity though.

Yes his name was put to it,

And it may have been or may not have been.

However if what he said was true then shows our current coaching is a fucking holiday camp

Ok even if it is (and I don't believe it is), how about the players take a bit of personal fucking responsibility? Don't they want to improve on a personal and professional level?

In most workplaces those that tend to get ahead are the ones who want to better themselves, put themselves out there or look for that bit of rextra esponsibility. Plenty at work who are happy to clock in and out and do no more than is asked of them.

These tend to be the same folk who moan like fuck when they don't get the bigger pay rise, bonus or opportunity to advance in a company and prefer to moan like fuck slagging others off as opposed to actually doing something about it themselves.

If true, why can't our players do the same or are they happy hiding behind excuses looking for the easy life blaming others?
