zeroisgod76
Seen someone post this with the Scottish results from 20 years ago. Right at the end of Ebbe's reign and a few weeks before Steve Paterson became boss. Noticed quite a few ex and future dons on the scoresheet across the top 2 divisions in Scotland... Jim Hamilton, Mixu, David Lilley, Dennis Wyness, Paul Sheerin, Leigh Hinds.... man we've had some shite in out team over the years, 1 Link to comment
Poodler
Larsson must be the best player to have played (competitively) at Pit in the last 30 years? Felt like he scored every game against us. Was always a few yards ahead 1 Link to comment

Scored 173 goals in his last 4 seasons at Celtic, thats unreal!! Link to comment

ericblack4boss
Aye Larsson for me probably the best player I've seen in Scotland in the last 20 yrs, he wouldnt have been out of place in any top European league. Link to comment

I mean, he played in two top leagues and wasn't out of place. At the time while he was at Celtic I remember thinking he was a diving cheat. I suspect I was not wholly objective in that assessment though. Link to comment
Yorston Vasey
That Clyde attendance is pretty impressive, was that not long after they went to Broadwood and the Cumbernauld council or whoever were really trying to build a Livingston-type team in the town.. before it all got rather acrimonious and Clyde got shit. Ando
...and if you go back another 10 years before that, we were battering Partick 7-0 in a rearranged game that was snowed off at 2-0 up. Remember it like it was last year never mind 30 years ago. Some team back then, shocking contrast to the Skovdahl/Paterson value-range austerity line-ups. 1 2 Link to comment

I'm sure Shearer was injured just after that and missed 2 months of the season so to still end up with 27 goals is amazing. Mixu also got 20, Booth 19 and Jess 16... 82 goals between the 4 of them. Genuinely believe the team we had that year would win the league now. Were the huns financially cheating back then? Link to comment
Dal Riata Don
Feel like this thread could go along the lines of: has the globalization of football been good or bad for Aberdeen? We aren't as good as 30 years ago but at the same time its not as dire as 20 years prior. Link to comment
BaaBaaRedSheep
Try 50 years ago being a Dons fan. Around this time in 1972 King Joey signed for Everton. The 8 year old me thought that it was the end of the world. Link to comment

That for me is the best attacking players we have had, if you add in Mason, and Bett, I think there is an argument for saying that is as good as any attacking players we have ever had. Agreed, best group of attackers i've seen in my time following the dons thats for sure. Still can't believe we didn't win anything with that team. 1 minute ago, ericblack4boss said: I was at the 6-2 game sat in south stand and was right behind Masons strike into the top corner as soon as he pulled back his foot to hit it , it was a goal. Did we not play Hearts again towards the end of that season and their goalkeeper (Nicky Walker i think) got injured in the warm up and they had to play an outfiled player in goals for the whole 90 minutes? Remember thinking we'd easily put 6 past them again but the match was a lot closer than it should have been. Link to comment

They started around 2000/2001 But the man who authorised their use.....Sir David Murray....was their chairman at that point....a position he relinquished fairly soon afterwards whilst remaining their largest shareholder. By the late 90s, oldco's debts were certainly spiralling out of control. So you can surmise that what had gone on in the preceding years was that they were slowly living outwith their means (whilst continuing to hoover up domestic trophies) Naelegs is currently the subject of legal action due to leaks made to the media regarding what happened around the time of oldco's administration/liquidation prior to which he'd sold his shareholding to Whyte for £1...with promises supposedly made that oldco's bank debt of £18m would be settled by Whyte as a condition of the sale Link to comment

Yep the 18 year old me was so pished I thought it was the end of the world. By far the most surreal time I will ever have as a Dons fan. Only period where I watched games expecting to win as opposed to hoping to win, even when we went a goal or two behind. Happy days. Link to comment
