Stewarding at Pittodrie

Recommended Posts

There is a real issue with certain personnel employed by Aberdeen. They clearly have the Police mentality that they 1. despise football fans and 2. feel they need to stamp their authority on young lads trying to enjoy themselves.

This cannot be allowed to continue without being challenged.

Why has the club employed around 30 jumped up nightclub bouncers to harass and attempt to intimidate our own fans?

The club came up with the Red Shed, which is a good idea, they have partially ruined it by their idiotic ticketing policy which means it's half empty every game, and are well on the way to completely ruining it by the moronic treatment of our own fans. The ones who actually create the atmosphere and make other young fans want to go to games.

The club successfully alienated the Red Ultras and are doing the exact same again. Nothing will change until these people employed by the club are moved on.

Hopefully Burrows, as a genuine football fan, can identify this before it gets even worse. At no other event would paying customers be treated with such disdain.

Those young fans are not helping themselves by breaking seats and throwing flares onto the pitch. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the club are getting annoyed at how much money they are losing through fines and having to fix seats

Exactly.

There’s no issues between the Gentlemen of the South Stand and the Stewards.

The club want all the reward without the risk.

I admit the throwing of flares onto the pitch is stupid, one almost hit a steward wifie in the heed on Saturday, which is fucking stupidity from whoever threw it.

Folk shouldn't have to deal with that kind of shit at their work, if that hit her in the face it would've been the whole thing knackered.

But aye, the bullshit about ticket sales being capped and what not is uniquely an Aberdeen council decision. St Mirren, Motherwell, Rangers and Celtic have no problem selling standing tickets to the fullest amount possible.

The club need to accept a certain amount of what might be considered daft behaviour if they want an atmosphere. It's not going to be the folk with blankets and AFC rock in their gobs.

There are lines that shouldn't be crossed but as far as I can make out, none really have thus far.

Which fines?

Seats are falling to bits anyway.  Club should just rip them out

This.  Atmosphere is to be encouraged.  Edgy supporters pushing the boundaries is to be expected and in quiet relatively unsuccessful spells welcomed.

Being cunts with their only excuse being young/ drunk / off their tits simply can’t be accommodated.

 Why should it?

Not sure it’s quite as easy as that with safety regulations nowadays. Safe standing has very strict guidelines which the Red Shed concrete would all have to be ripped up I think.

The stewards in RDS are okay. But agreed, the stewards in the Red Shed have a more difficult job, which is fair enough.

I did notice on leaving on Saturday there were eight stewards standing outside the Livi away egress gate which was bizarre given they not had about sixty supporters.

Not paying for a training ground?

OK, he shouldn’t have named it after himself, but he largely paid for it.

No offence but I always chuckle when I hear or read that comment. If he paid for it, he can call it whatever he wants, is my view. No other fucker was going to pay for it.

Dick Donald. Ian Donald. Martin Gilbert. Hugh Little. Ian Jack. That other oil fuck who graced the board for years. Stewart T Milne.

Did any of the above ever offer to dip their mit in their pocket to pay for a training facility?

Cormack can be correctly lacerated for many AFC related things but self titling the training facility is small fry. IMHO

It's about time they started being realistic and making these improvements to Pittodrie. The new stadium remains a complete pipe dream.

I don’t disagree.
My point was more to the poster who said the Red Shed was DC’s biggest achievement.

It was a good idea & it’s improved the atmosphere without doubt, but Cormack Park, by far, is the biggest plus mark.

Council blocking the potential of a safe standing bit with no seats and the club are continuously saying the issue is the cost.

I don't think they see the point in implementing a safe standing bit proper when there are designs to move stadium, but when that'll actually come to fruition is anyones best guess.

If it were me I'd take the seats out from the food turnstile on the right all the way over to the toilets on the left, and the tartan blankets and sit in the flanking parts, and abdy else can crack on trying to make the football fun.

Never going to happen though, the council seem determined to stamp out any budding football culture in the city.

Even if they don't want to rip it out they should theoretically be able to have full standing capacity with the seats even.

Motherwell have no issues with this, nor do Rangers or St Mirren.

It's exclusive to the bams at our council.

Dick Donald fronted money for a new stand behind the goals at the beach end...what did it get called again?

Did he? I genuinely didn't know that. I always thought it was Milne.

Milne wasn’t involved with afc at time. He was given the contract and built it. However club went heavily into arrears paying for it and delayed a final payment, Milne was offered place on board, and so our demise began.

That's what I always thought. His place on the board was in exchange for the stand build. Ergo, paying for it in a roundabout way.

But as NEM points out, neither put up cash.

Some points.

- It was Ian Donald that was involved when we built the RDS, not Dick. Stewart Milne Construction built it and the rumour goes that as a sweetener, he was given place on Board. The club actually funded this - wasn't a personal loan/grant from any shareholder.

- Was a smoke grenade that was lobbed onto pitch, not a flare. Not splitting hairs and if one hit you on the napper I'm sure either would be sore. But the smoke cannisters.... whoopy do. Any worse than you'd get at a cheesy 1990's disco?

- Regulations mean we couldn't just rip out seats. Safe Standing infrastructure would need to be in place, hence why Celtic don't have restrictions. The fact the we make it 'non-allocated' means we have to reduce capacity to reduce risk of over-crowding in certain areas.
