aberdeen1970
50 plus 1 is the future The German spectator traditionally has close ties with his club," Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said in 2016. "And if he gets the feeling that he's no longer regarded as a fan but instead as a customer, we'll have a problem." The 50+1 rule guards against this. The name of the rule refers to the need for members of a club to hold 50 percent, plus one more vote, of voting rights - i.e. a majority. In short, it means that clubs - and, by extension, the fans - have the ultimate say in how they are run, not an outside influence or investor. Under German Football League (DFL) rules, football clubs will not be allowed to play in the Bundesliga (or second division) if outside investors have the greatest say. In essence, this means that private or commercial investors cannot take over clubs and potentially push through measures that prioritise profit over the wishes of supporters. The ruling simultaneously protects against reckless owners and safeguards the democratic customs of German clubs. 1 Link to comment

I think the 50+1 German model is a fair one and better for the long-term health of the game. Sure, England is top dog financially these days, but it's a set-up that's not sustainable and will surely eventually crack. Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
If I believed there would be enough Aberdeen fans to do ‘fan owned’ then I would do so but I don’t think enough would be willing. Not for up to as much as 49% anyway. Easier for cheap clubs to do it & survive at similar levels they’re used to Link to comment

A DNA scheme which delivers some shares rather than just a donation would be a start. I believe the Hearts scheme is similar to that. 3 Link to comment
