He's in no shape or form good enough for what I want our club to achieve

Still relatively young & ‘inexperienced’ in terms of games played for a defender because defenders & keepers are always judged far more harshly than other players because ANY mistakes are more often than not ‘multiplied’ because they often lead to goals.

We all want ‘better’ for our team but MacKenzie is probably a better LB than Considine was at his age & we all know how much shite Considine took. Even though that wasn’t actually Considine’s position.

MacKenzie has the misfortune of playing (especially this season) with an atrocious defence/keeper & a shambolic managerial setup his whole time in team.

He’s going to make mistakes defensively. These would be less significant if he had better ‘mentors’ but he is an asset going forward often & with better team around him his ‘inexperience/flaws’ would be less an issue & better learned from.

Why are you using Considine as a yardstick? He was rotten for pretty much his entire career, barring a wee competent patch towards the end of his stint. He was almost single-handedly responsible for at least 4 or 5 of Celtics titles during their 9 in a row stint.

Maybe so…..but he was a more effective DEFENDER than plenty we’ve suffered over the years , including most, if not all of the current crop

You’re at it. Byrne was fucking terrible. Calderwood interspersed a team of good players with some utter shite and Byrne was definitely utter shite

That’s a lot of utter shite as well

Well. That is fucking mental.

It's well clear how the game is in such big trouble when the folks in charge are coming up with such insane rules.

Utterly fucking insane. So an accidental handball by the attacking team if a goal comes after it is fine. Accidental handball by the defending team is a penalty.

Whichever clueless fuckers came up with those belters needs to be burned at the stake.

Another part of the problem with hand ball is they have changed the law and definition seemingly every year for the last 4 years or so.

I’d take Byrne ahead of Gartenmann and Jensen , for instance every day of the week

Wow Byrne was without doubt one of the worst defenders to ever pull on an Aberdeen top this century. Only surpassed by a chosen few like Dave “fucking” bus and Alan “league cup winning living legend” tait

He was solid enough when his positioning, awareness, and timing were all working in-sync.

Those occasions were few and far between and unfortunately to his detriment when factoring in his "no holds barred" style of defending. He had a couple of dislocated shoulders and hamstring injuries during his time at AFC and was signed after an injury-ravaged spell at Dunfermline before coming to AFC.

I was using him as an example of a player in shite teams being slaughtered way more than deserved when still young (for a defender)

MacKenzie isn’t even as bad as Considine was but is getting even more stick but is playing in an even worse team with worse managers.

i also used him because they are the only two things resembling LB’s we’ve had playing for us in recent times even though consi was actually a CH but played LB more so 🤷 who else can we compare a LB too? Certainly not McGarry
