SAF would be right of course. Willie had a knack of ushering players out to the wings and killing the threat, when he did have to make a tackle his timing was superb and he was a great reader of the game.

He carried the tache well, even if the mullet got a bit dodgy for a season or two. There was a great pic on here a while back with SAF on the pitch at Hampden with a lidless Scottish cup. Cool as you like and how I remember him.

Played a good few games carrying an injury too.

Never was afraid of a tackle, in and out of the box. In fact best penalty box defender I have ever seen.

A credit to him that he remained with us throughout his career, could have performed well on higher stages.

Finally he is absolutely correct to respond to Warnock's bitter comments. Warnock made an absolute arse of things and it is reasonable to call him out.

I just got a version of this from the Aberdeen Retro facebook page and the white away version too, top quality and highly recommended for delivery and comms

Let’s hope whoever is in charge of next seasons kits grows some brains and bins the red and yellow crap they come up with for this season.  And reverts back to the one on the retro Facebook page.

Willie Miller was class.  Oh for another Willie Miller in the defence.

Fergie always says he is one of the greatest (more specifically, penalty box) defenders he's ever seen. Hard to argue, he was a natural. The way he read the game was something you can't learn and can't teach, you've either got it or you haven't.

Throw in Miss Buchan from the 60s ex maths teacher Northfield Acadamy, she would scare the shit out of defences nowadays.

I'm from Northfield Brebner terrace but went to St Peter's RC school instead.

But Northfield was a great area to be brought up in.

I'm sure you will agree .

Nae bad for someone who started as a striker.

Got a picture on my study wall of Mr Miller presenting me with champion street trophy before a game at pittodrie (assume he was injured). Black and white, but still makes me happy.

Joe Harper was still my hero... shallow kid 😄

As in what?

I've heard the "best penalty box defender ever" from SAF

But was he technical too?

It's the unruly hair, tache and really hairy arms. Literally don't get players like that anymore - so manly

Who had the look first, him or souness?

The tach in the early 80’s was the thing, MT. My brother got married in 83 and we watched the converted recording of it. Every loon at the wedding had a moustache. Just underlined their noses,  nae beard.
The whole wedding production looked like it could become a German porn set at any moment.
God was the inspiration…

Haha wish it would come back

Beards have had their day, taches for the win

(Ps, Souness pioneered it)

Stuart Kennedy rocked a cracking tach too.
So did Roger Conner, but I felt he was a bit late to the party.
ian Angus shouldn’t have bothered. 😂

Miller himself said that a tackle should be a last resort, if you're positioned properly and anticipating what's happening then it shouldn't be necessary.
