The Jimmy Thelin Thread...

Recommended Posts

I wondered whether he has a relegation clause that allows him to opt out joining if we were relegated so wouldn't join until we were mathematically safe. However if the Aab manager had already left then that is probably wide of the mark as Elfsborg couldn't then pull his contract.

As others have said, seems strange he wouldn't want to come in and try a few things in our final matches with the current squad to help decide who to retain and who to move on.

Has it ever been confirmed why he's still in Sweden? I can't remember ever seeing a situation like this before.

The Aab manager who is replacing him left Aab more than two weeks ago now, yet Thelin still remains at Elfsborg, very weird.

The Liverpool manager is still in place, we don't even have a manager, so the comparison doesn't really work.

It's exactly the same.

Exactly Zeus. As do Liverpool. Both are leaving at the end of the season. Both new managers are still with their current clubs.

Hearts seemed to have that problem under either Cathro or Stendel (can’t remember which one) in that they would play great against the OF but do very poorly against the other 9 teams in the League.

The Stendel comparison is interesting (to me, anyway)

He came in, had to use the shite that Potter left him with, but tried to impose his strategy of high press, high energy, ceding possession (so to all intents and purposes, the same as Jimmy) but without the players in place to do so.

Should have allowed himself at least 2 transfer windows to get the relevant players in place, but didnt and so cost him his job and Hearts’ top division status.

Interesting times ahead for us.

Probably already been mentioned previously in this thread but I believe he played a different style with the team he managed before Elfsborg.  After the move he realised it wouldn't work so changed his style.  Apparently quite adaptable.  Pretty sure this came from the Swedish journalist interviewed on the ABZ podcast.

Swedish league has a summer break starting in June.  Part of the agreement we struck with Elfsborg in letting him go was he would stay in place until their summer break.  We are happy with that and so are they.

Wonder if they are still happy with it now. Have they not been humped each week since he agreed to join the Dons.

theyre probably considering sacking him now.

They won their last game. In fairness, they sold a few important players for good money all in one window. Would expect this to be a season of transition for them even if Jimmy stayed.

This happened before, looking at their record - last time they finished 2nd, the vultures circled and picked apart their squad and it took them a couple of seasons to rebuild.

It was confirmed by none other than Chris Harvey that he does not have a get out clause.

Ok so what happens if he blatantly said no I am not coming?, folk from Aberdeen going to kidnap him and tie him to the managers chair? In any other job can’t a job be rescinded by the future employee before he takes the job even after a contract has been signed?, this is not the army, he can easily walk away if he wanted and nothing anybody could do about it.

he won’t obviously, but there’s no such thing as a get out clause in football, or most jobs, that’s just ridiculous.

for example.

A person takes a job with a start date then in between gets stage 4 cancer, dying, does that person have to commit to the previously signed contract?

hell no.(human rights comes before employment law)

Never looked into what boyd and stewart were saying in great detail other than we should have got him in now. what a crock of shite, how would they know what is going on? this will happen all the time with coaches and players, just we made it news worthy with the warnock shambles.

That will be just a taster of what's to come our way if we don't get a reasonable start to next season however.

They'll be all over JT as he isn't part of the old pals act. Hopefully we can get some decent signings in, and get going from the outset and not give them the chance. Normally, stewart is quite measured, but boyd, miller etc just waffle pish, repeating what they read (or have read to them).

Boyd is just poison, on a different level to the others, as bigoted as they get the boyd, a hateful human piece of shit.

Hope he doesn't carry the Elfsborg form with him...They're having a shiter of a start.

I did previously think myself he should have been in earlier than June, but Leven has a decent thing going and it would also have been a big risk to remove him while we were fighting to avoid the play off spot. The pressure is more or less off now and I'm sure Jimmy is viewing from a distance to make some big decisions on who moves on next season. He will have to take a fair bit of advice on that as well from Leven, who to be fair I trust to make the correct calls.

Fuck Boyd, Fuck Stewart. Nobody cares what they think anyway, irrelevant cunts.

People continuing to pish their pants ... after confirmation of the new manager.  Unreal.

Not many in the dons support to be fair, just a few predictable voices from some in the media. Leven has steadied things and will get us over the line with a few games spare and the new guy will come in with a full pre season and chance to build a squad, so not sure what the big issue is.

Ideal if possible for JT came in with a few games to go to settle in, but we’ve got another big overhaul regardless so don’t think it makes as much of a difference.

The ironic thing is we are constantly criticised for taking short term decisions with management but then criticised by the same people for waiting until the end of the season to appoint who the club are being deliberate to say is someone that needs time/for the long term.

Lets face it, the average pundit doesn't have a clue and is looking for things to moan about to be "controversial" while knowing very little about the club or even it's players, because we don't wear blue or green.

Pat Bonnar doesn't even know who Celtic are playing half the time, but knows every Celtic players dogs name.

Michael Stewart goes in a strop and the likes of McIntyre goad him on orders of the Sportsound producers for "entertainment" and every discussion of Aberdeen I've ever heard has all the depth of a kiddies pool.

And the less said about Open Goal or PLZ Soccer the better - they don't know what happens outside the M8.
