uni_don
Struggling Luton sack boss Newell. Luton have been dragged right down in to the relegation places, but I feel sorry for him - he kept having to sell all his best players and not been able to replace them. Link to comment

He was a good guy, who got f@cked by his board. Sell your best players, then blame the manager for a loss of form!! Nice. Link to comment

Well if she hadn't removed herself from the kitchen, she wouldn't have put herself in a dodgy decision making position!!! All her fault I'm afraid. Link to comment

uni_don
Luton turn up the heat on sacked Newell over alleged cash from transfer deals. Some new controversy in this saga - apparently Mike Newell has been pocketing 10% of the fees received for all Luton's sold players. Not illegal because it's in his contract, but it makes him one hell of a hypocrite! Link to comment

They dug their own gravewhen they sacked [Mike] Newell and put me on the bench. An icebergwould have a greater chance of making it in hell than Luton have ofstaying in the Championship. Some of the guys would be good Americanfootball kickers. The others should get out of football. I hope Idon't stay here and be humiliated. For the fans' sake, I still hopefor a win. But with these clowns for coaches, I doubt it" - Fulhamstriker Bjorn Runstrom today, a little over a month after joiningLuton on loan. Link to comment
muir
As he is a former Don I was always quite interested in Mike Newell's career in management. I thought he was a hero when he was threatening to exposure corruption in the game. I thought he was a wanker when he made his comments about the female linesman (or assistant referee!). Like earlier posters I thought he was hard done to as many of his best players were sold it in the January tarnsfer window. However after reading the article in the Guardian it sounds like Newell benefited financially from these and other deals. If that is correct he is definitely a hypocrite. The only thing that concerns me is that the source for this story seems to be the Luton board. I wonder if they are trying to discredit Newell before he goes to the press again with his version of events. One thing is for sure - He makes JC seem shy and retiring when it comes to dealing with the press! Link to comment
Baggy89
Seem slike a reasnoable clause would certainly encourage managers to develop players rather than buy and waste the clubs money. Wonder if they will hold another phone vote to decide who the new manger is! Link to comment
uni_don
Wonder if they will hold another phone vote to decide who the new manger is!That was a bloody stupid idea - Watford fans phoned up to vote for Mike Newell. Ironically, Newell turned out to be the best manager Luton had had for years. Link to comment
