NorthernLights24
England exited the European Under-21 Championship after a dramatic penalty shoot-out semi-final defeat to Holland. Anton Ferdinand's effort, which smacked against the bar, proved decisive as they lost 13-12 on spot-kicks. Leroy Lita had put England ahead before half-time, holding off his marker before scoring with a left-foot shot. Lita also hit the outside of the post with a free-kick but the Dutch equalised in the 89th minutes when Ryan Donk headed across for Maceo Rigters. Good to see the youngsters are just like the senior side. Link to comment
MMG
Was great to see Hollands equaliser come because Steven Taylor was lying injusred in the England penalty box. Because of the manner of englands goal against Serbia, the English commentators on Sky Sports couldn't actually complain against the goal.... Link to comment
Monkey
Would have been a disgrace if Holland had not got through. Interested to hear them going on about Englands Heroic performance when in fact they were being horsed by the Dutch from about half time onwards. And I don't know why there were complaints that Taylor had to take a penalty? He was on the field at the end of 120 mins and you can't decidejust before the 10th penalty that a player isn't going to take one and move back to your 1st choice. Link to comment
Guest LondonScottish
Unbelievable shootout. Stuart Pearce said afterwards that it was his "proudest night" in his whole career even though they didn't get through. Big statement from a hell of a player...... or maybe just saying the right thing to help with his possible employment as full-time U-21's coach. Link to comment
