As a Spurs fan i think is the biggest waste of money ever! http://www.uefa.com/footballeurope/news/ki...sid=556651.html As a non-Spurs fan I think it's the biggest waste of money ever. sheep_shagger
Agree with the sentiments. I reckon Defoe is a better player than Bent. After doing so well in the transfer market last season with Berbatov i fear they have made a huge error this season. Link to comment
Ally
Ridiculous amount of money to pay for a striker who is no better than Keane, Defoe, or Berbatov. Link to comment
tlg1903
Heard this on the radio this morning and shook my head. I'l say this for bent as opposed to defoe though, his movement and positioning are totally superior. In short he's a poacher whereas defoe is still trying to figure out how that there are other players on the pitch with the same shirt on Link to comment
vanderark14
this is a weird move for Jol. he already has 3 top quality strikers in his team. maybe one of those 3 will be on the move soon Link to comment
baldrick_sheep
I think Bent is a quality player, but never worth Link to comment

StuSimmy
Henry went for around 1m more, surely something wrong there. Bent is good but not worth that, maybe about 8/9m I would say. They already have Defoe, Keane and Berbatov, surely that opens the door for one of them 3 to be going. A few clubs have been after Berbatov and Keane. Link to comment
vanderark14
the fee they have paid is what i have come to expect from the idiots with the cheque books down south but if i were a spurs fan i'd more concerned as to why my team were adding to the one area in the team they are very strong in when they could have spent that cash on a better defender or midfielder Link to comment
robbo
lets look at this another way. darren bent single handedly got charlton into a very good position in his 1st season in the premiership. he scored something like 35 goals in 77 games for a pish side. hes also what....22, just turned 23? assuming he stays at spurs till he turns 30 - probably wont happen but it could. 15 million over 7-8 years worth aint that bad. hes only going to get better as he matures so its an investment. Or to look at it in another way, he was a good player in a $hite team and while although he scored alot of goals, it could be argued his contribution to the rest of his team's play isn't conducive to that of a Link to comment

TommyR
17 million for him yet Barca want to buy Lampard for 15 million, what the hell has football came to? Link to comment
Sonoftherock
Darren Bent is a very, very good player and is a helluva lot better than Defoe, who for me, is extremely one-dimensional. 16 million or whatever he cost, however, is completely ridiculous..... I'd says hes worth about 8 million or so. Link to comment
Guest ultrarobin
Shocking money. That's more than our entire debt on one player, who isn't that great! Link to comment
JC1903
Been speaking to a Spurs fan who says Defoe was completely useless last season, and wouldn't mind seeing the back of him at all. I agree that Bent appears to be a far more intelligent and dangerous striker but Link to comment
robbo
ipswich must be more delighted since theyve made 2.9 million from the deal. they only sold him for 2 in the 1st place! Link to comment

JC1903
I doubt Jol had anything to do with the transfer fee. Crazy price non the less, Watch this, Owen will end up getting sold for Link to comment
E-P-K
True, although Liverpool's demands of around 10mil for that grade A sh*t Bellamy could rival Bent for Ridiculous Valuation of the Summer..... at least no-one was daft enough to pay that mind :itch-chin: Easy tiger, West Ham remember. robbo
i dont see why everyone thinks this is such a bad deal. hes young, hes got a good record in the premiership and u21s, hes only going to get better training with likes of berbatov and keane everyday. yes 16.5 mil is a bit expensive but given that torres is away to move for 10 million more at almost the same age, might not be as bad as everyone is saying. robbo
what merits torres being 10 times better? - goals? bent has goals in him and already has a proven premiership record. Torres doesnt and could be another Cisse/Morientes/Crespo/Shevchenko/Forlan....need i go on- pace? bent has stacks- age? both 22/23 so still have 10 years yet- caps for your country id conceed that point- captaining your club side...i dont see torres as much of a leader, hes just one for the fans, same as gerrard. paulkaneatemyhamster
End of the day, you ask Liverpool fans who'd they rather have Torres or Bent , hell you ask Spurs fans who'd they'd rather have. I'm pretty sure most fans would agree they'd prefer torres over bent. I know at AFC , i'd rather have Torres Link to comment
