NorthernLights24
Spain international Antonio Puerta had a suspected heart attack in Sevilla's 4-1 Primera Liga win against Getafe. The 22-year-old suffered problems midway through the first-half on the opening day of the season in Spain. Medics prevented Puerta from swallowing his tongue, but he collapsed again after going off and was given cardiac resuscitation before going to hospital. His condition was described as "very serious" and club president Jose Maria del Nido claimed it was a heart attack. Team-mate Ivica Dragutinovic was first to Puerta's aid and midfielder Renato said: "We were very frightened, but the doctors knew what they were doing. "It was difficult to continue playing. This victory is dedicated to Puerta." Sevilla coach Juande Ramos was in no mood to talk about his side's victory after the match. "I don't have the mind to speak now. The reason I am here is because we are all professionals, but I have no desire to talk of the game or anything," Ramos said. "I would like to see the player. The game does not have any importance compared with the health of a player." Uefa Cup holders Sevilla are set to contest the Super Cup against AC Milan in Monaco on Friday 31 August. I heard he had collapsed during the game but just found out on the BBC site it was a heart attack. Wonder if it was caused by an undiagnosed heart condition he may have had. Link to comment
E-P-K
Another site is reporting diffrently. "The exact reasons for the collapse are unknown, but it is hypothesized that the player blacked out due to a lack of supply to oxygen to a section of the brain, which also affected other body functions." Guest glasgowdon
I was watching this, it looked like the lad had swalloed his tongue. His team mate shoved his fingers into Puerta's mouth and then he seemed to sit up and look ok. The club doctor ordered him off right away. Link to comment

The Proclaimer
have UEFA postponed the match? it'll be shocking if they let that go ahead Take it you mean the Sevilla match against AEK Athens tonight? I'd reckon they'll play it, seeing as Sevilla have already travelled to Athens. In an ideal world they'd call off the game but I can't see it happening Link to comment

langfield pimp hands
It seems like the only time this happens to fit athletes they have some sort of enlarged heart or heart murmur. It will be interesting to find out the cause. It will be a tough season for sevilla. Link to comment
