Bluto10
i dont really buy into the e.p.l. hype issue, i actually think its a good quality league, and whatever i read in the papers i always take with a pinch of salt, as i know its not necessarily a reflection of real life. but two players that are begining to get a lot of exposure are gareth bale and jack wiltshere. i think bale has been pretty good but to be p.o.t.y. is a tad premature if you ask me. persoanlly i dont even think he's the best player iat spurs. and as for wiltshere. people seem to think england now have a midfield savour of the like seen at barcelona. the worlds gone mad. Foster14
I spoke to a family of spurs fans at new year who said the same, they think modric is the better player. Modric doesn't have quite the same effect on the highlights reel, which most players will base it on. Modric and VDV are better players at Spurs, but Bale has the potential to trump both. Jaws
I agree that Bale is over rated to stupendous levels but he's still a fantastic player. He'd get a game for any team in the league imo. As for Wilshere, what's your beef with him? He's only 19. Do you expect him to come into the team performing like Zinedine Zidane straight away. I think he's got terrific potential. Link to comment
Sonoftherock
Phillipe Mexes immediately springs to mind. Everytime I see this guy he has a complete 'mare. Must have something about though, as he's always being touted for a move to one of the big guns. Link to comment
StandFree1982
IMHO professional footballers in general are over rated going by current wages being paid out at the moment. Link to comment

I think he's got terrific potential. i dont have a beef with him i just think some people are getting carried away a bit here.by the age of 18/19, wayne rooney had been the y.p.o.t.t at euro 04 and was a mainstay in the national side.wiltshere just played a few games for arsenal.he might have terrific potential but from other coutnries he'd be just another decent young player with a bright future. fifered
The media and fans tend to over rate players all the time. People classed as 'world class' before they've achieved anything in the game. As for some of the current crop;Charlie Adam, horrifically over rated. Peter Houston compared him to Xavi and Iniesta, what a joke.Bale, undoubtedly talented but worth 50mil and one of the best in the world, nonsense.John Terry, where this world class centre back crap comes from who knows. The latest in a long line of overhyped Englishman.Kaka, to value him simlar to Zidane is ridiculous. He lacks pace and doesn't score enough. A passenger at Real and Brazil. Same could be said for Robinho, workshy with a massive ego and a passenger for every team he's played for.As for older players;Rui Costa, world class my butt. No work ethic and rarely contributed to turning a game. Link to comment

Agree with a lot of what you've said there, but I've got to take issue with Rui Costa... clearly you didn't often tune into Football Italia during the 90's! Rui Costa must have layed-on over half of Batistutas 150+ goals at Fiorentina. He was a fantastically talented footballer... didn't really set the heather alight during the major international tournaments, but then again the majority of the portuguese "golden generation" were a let down when they teamed up for the national team. Just don't get it. To me he is one of these players who has talent but didn't seem to achieve anything with it through a lack of application mainly. If you compare him to some of the other much hyped attacking midfielders of the same generation like Zidane, Figo and Scholes, Rui Costa doesn't deserve the adulation he received. To be fair, I've always thought that Seedorf is overrated as well but he's won three European Cups with three different teams, so what do I know!! Link to comment
Rossshepherd
I think Fabregas. Or Van Persie, very rarely been impressed by either of them. Link to comment
StandFree1982
Only players going round at the moment who I would potentially classify as World class would be Messi and Ronaldo. I know Ronaldo is a bit of a no no for some people but his scoring record for Man United and then Real has been incredible. I say potentially because both have been fairly mediocre for their countries and if they could pull off their club form for their respective country then they could be geniunly classified as world class. It's difficult to compare certain types of player anyways, england generally have more quick, strong players who will run all game. Spain you have players with better dribbling and ball skills who can keep the ball well and pick out a pass. Defenders don't normally get the recognition they deserve, compared with strikers who are generally well over inflated and overrated. Link to comment

InTaeEm
I spoke to a family of spurs fans at new year who said the same, they think modric is the better player. I'd have to agree there, Spurs being my Premier League team, I still think Modric and Van der Vaart on their day are the best but Bale's potential is frightening after seeing the damage he done to Inter Milan, if he were to play like that every game opponents would have a torrid time! He won Players player of the year which is a bit different, Berbatov when he's been on has been fantastic this season which is shown by his goals and the fact he is a striker and doing his job. Wilshere on the other hand, i've taken a disliking too, he seems to be one of many youngsters coming through who have potential but are money-grabbing, self centred tw*ts.. Link to comment

At times he looked world class and he was becoming better and better, then he just spiralled downwards! Still would love to see him in a dandies top though!!! Ah f**king hell....Hibs, how over rated have they been over the last 5 years? The amount of times they were bummed up all season and ended up well below us in the league was unbelievable! Aberdeen, even when we were close to second, have never ever been praised. The media hates us! Link to comment
