Bluto10
Haha, you don't score that many goals from Man U days / Europe / Real Madrid if you're not 'that' good. Sometimes you baffle me. true but i think there a paucity of greta players around at the moment. sure ronaldo is really good, but he nowhere near the legendary status that id give to, say, the following... zidane, ronaldinhioronaldobaggiobeckhamgullitvanbsten i know i'm being a bit harsh on him but he did cost real madrid 80m quid. and he does tlove himself too much. set against that, he doesnt match up. i liked him in the euros but couldnt help but feel his ballgreedyness hampered a decent, if not world beating, portugal side. and the penalty stuff. stand_free
Messi>Ronaldo Would definitely still class Ronaldo as a great player though. But not up there with the best of all time yet. Both him and Messi need to do more internationally. Media would jizz there pants for an Argentina-Portugal final in Rio. Link to comment

You're always keen to argue that if you take Messi out the Barcelona team, they would be very ordinary. The same applies to Real and Ronaldo. Link to comment

Dynamo
Clarify what more you expect? Goals? Saves? Maisies from his own penalty box skinning every player in the other team twice and dinking it over the goalie from 25 yards? Link to comment

Maisies from his own penalty box skinning every player in the other team twice and dinking it over the goalie from 25 yards? he's nae the only cunt that scores goals you know. you seem to be happy cause hes a very good footballer. maybe for 80m i exepct him to win the cl, and nae miss a penaty en route, singlehandedly. and also win the euros. and every other competition he enters. every single year. aanyway, my point is that he cost too much. his is a player who, imo, is just very good but not legendary. suppose its not his fault real paid that much. You're not factoring in how much the football market has escalated since then though. He's also not 16 Maradonas or over 80 Johan Cruyff's. Link to comment
zerodon47
ronaldo is a great, great goalscorer. and will go down as one of, maybe the best goalscorer ever. but he certainly is not and will not be anywhere near as good as the likes of previosuly mentioned folk like zizou, messi, figo, ronaldo, baggio etc. oh and as for folk that say messi and ronaldo need to win world cup blah blah......bollocks! one of the most overused and bullshit arguments ever. maradona zidane and pele didna win the world cup themselves and anybody who says otherwise is speakin shit, these lads played in top quality teams at the time and theyr victory was part of a great team effort full of other top class players. Using that analogy, Zidane should have been 10 Maradonas, if you use rough transfer prices of 50m and 5m respectively (which I think would be fairly accurate). The market is continually expanding. Cristiano Ronaldo now directly involved in 200 goals in his last 178 games with Man Utd (53) and Real Madrid (125): 149 goals & 51 assists. Aye, he's just not that good. That stat is from Feb 12. I'm baffled. Me too. Link to comment
chaos_defrost
What does his price tag have to do with how good he is? Him and Messi will always get compared. Can't pick between them. Both have amazing goal scoring records. Link to comment
Bluto10
What does his price tag have to do with how good he is? a lot really, surely. one way to campare footballer, like we all enjoy doing, is from the cost. it helps us to quantfiy players relative to one another. we know football is fcuked on many levels, but 80m for one player is ridiculous. if said player is egotistical and is complaining cause he either a) doesnt get paid enough or b)isnt valued as highly as he believes he should be then we equally can question whether he is as good as he thinks he is. and this is where i stand alone in saying that ronaldo has not justified his transfer fee.admittedly it would be ahrd for any player to justify 80m pounds.the form and character messi has shown over the past 6 years could justify it considerably more than ronaldo. stand_free
Buying players has way more to do with their performance on the pitch nowadays, it's also whether Madrid can make the money back in shirt sales etc. Messi's only cost to Barca was his relocation and medication for his growth problems. They reckoned if he hadn't got it he'd have only grown to about 4' 10" He's been much better than Ronaldo for years. Since the season Man U last won the Champions League. Link to comment
