donsdee85
Hello fellow dons fans, I was wondering if you can help me. I am looking for peoples views on Donald Trumps golf course and the affect it has had on Aberdeenshire. If possible would you be able to fill in this short survey HERE . Its for a Uni dissertation so the more people who fill it in the better. Thanks! Link to comment
fatshaft
Done. A pretty slanted survey though, with loaded questions designed to get you to answer negatively about the resort. I take it you're a green nutter? Link to comment

fatshaft
Good to hear you're not a nutter, though your bias does show through on that survey. Link to comment

You should have a look at the thread in The Pub forum. And you'll struggle to find anyone with much knowledge of environmental matters on here. Link to comment

I don't even play golf either but believe it will be of massive benefit to the north-east. Also folk can stick their disgusting wind-turbines right up their hoop!!! Link to comment

OddJob
Playing devils advocate a little bit here but can you tell me why you think it will be of massive benefit to the NE?Going by the plans and people who have already seen what it looks like so far it's meant to look magnificent and by my reckoning will be one of the best courses in the country. There will be lots of golfers around the world who will want to play there and the money that will be generated by this and who knows, Trump wants to try and get major tournaments staged there too. Imagine the money rolling in. Can only benefit the north east Link to comment
Dandie1992
I work there. So any opinion I put would be biased Link to comment

phoenix
Trump must put up with the wind turbines along with the rest of us. They are things of beauty in their own way but incongruous in the countryside environment , less so offshore. They are a necessary evil given diminishing fossil fuel levels and the Arab predilection for making us 'take it up the ass'. They will not be permanent as the futurologists( Michio Kaku ) tell us that there is ample energy to be harvested from farther out in the Universe...when we have the technology( which is coming on in leaps and bounds). Turbines are a small and essential sacrifice that the current incumbents of Planet Earth are having to make. Get over it , ye f u c k i n' megalomaniac. Link to comment

Dandie1992
As an employee and golfer working there. I can say with some fact that it is a stunning place. Ethereal beauty, stunning golfing challenge (650 yard par 5 18th, with 18 bunkers) plus others. The place has a mystique about it. All the comments about looking great make me chuffed! tightbreeks
it can only be a good thing, it'll bring more folk round aberdeen on their way to dornoch. some big tournaments as well. maybe the government are doing a wee cheeky move, just so trump keeps on his toes. the course looks amazing, and if it does go wrong then over time it'll go back to being dunes. Imagine the money rolling in. Can only benefit the north east Whilst I have to agree, that a world class golf course can be of no harm to the economy of the North East - I can't see that it will be as 'beneficial' as many are saying... Many are simply swept along with the Trump media bandwagon, along with all of the promises of 'Opens' and 'Ryder Cup's' etc - but most are completely missing the point of what Trump is doing here. Trump is in no way interested in the economy of Aberdeenshire, or Scotland - he's only interested in what he can get out of this personally. What can he personally gain out of the golf course? Not much. What can he gain? oh yes, from selling off over a THOUSAND new houses (as well as 'luxury' holiday homes) - thats almost doubling the size of Balmedie isn't it? Anyone who knows anything about the planning process will be aware that this application was ENTIRELY against Aberdeenshire's planning policy (thats before you even get to the whole 'environmental' argument - but that's another story!). If this had been lodged by any other applicant it would have been thrown out almost immediately... but since the public have been strung along with the promise of this world class golf course thats suddenly going to make Aberdeen the centre of the universe... the planners (and the government) have essentially bent over for Mr Trump here. I have no doubt that it will be an amazing golf course, but anyone who has seen the designs for the clubhouse and other related buildings can surely only agree with me that the place will be like a poor American-Idea-Of-Scottish attempt at being Disneyland!! Whether or not you agree with the principle of the golf course, the designs for the buildings so far are a total embarrassment. I'd love to be proven wrong and for Trump Dunes to one day be the location for the British Open or the Ryder Cup or whatever Trump has promised, but can anyone tell me - has any of Donald Trump's other golf courses around the world ever hosted a major tournament? Maybe its because i'm cynical but I genuinely believe we're all being conned on this one.... Link to comment
fatshaft
It will host the Scottish Open in 2014, there's very little doubt about that. Link to comment
Stoney
Think its going to be great for the area, about time we had a golf course capable of hosting big tournaments, i for one would go and watch! Gave up golf a good few years ago, but due to aberdeen being shite, i am seriously thinking about investing in some clubs so i can have a round on the new course. Link to comment
