Frankenstorm

Newscasters up here are going ape-shite berserk, wanking themselves into a frenzy over how much awesome carnage there could be. News shows have been rife with pictures of tidal waves and scenes nicked directly from 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow.

I'm guessing it'll turn out to be nothing more than a stiff breeze of the sort you get off the North Sea in August, but you never know.

Anyone in the path of imminent 'devastation'?

Yup, even the merest possibility of a bit of minor mayhem and the media works itself into an End of Days frenzy.

"Zak, this could be the biggest natural disaster since Godzilla DESTROYED downtown Tokyo in 'The Terror of Mechagodzilla'"

"That's right, Chad. Experts are saying it could rain fire for forty days and forty nights, and the Seven Trumpets of Revelation could be heard at any time."

"Exactly, Zak, we're all going to die in the hell that is this FRANKENSTORM!"

Highly-strung, hysterical fucking women a-go-go in this country.

news reports are suggesting people freeze multiple ziploc bags of water, to use to keep their food chilled and as drinking water as it defrosts. the national US news media saying that power could be out for 7-10 days.

and it was just announced that NYC has shut down all public transportation -- including the subway system -- effective 7 pm tonight.

should be a pleasant few days in new york :scouser:

Oh aye, it should be pleasant enough... because one thing New Yorkers don't do is complain constantly.

They're still greeting about the Detroit Tigers shoving a baseball bat up their arse in the World Series last week... a bit of heavy rain should really cement their good-natured demeanour.

Have been scooting around in The Beast today, listening to the news on the radio.. fucking hilarious.

They've a lad down by the water, yelling about how the waves are "So powerful the ground is rumbling."

Obviously this guy has never been on the fucking beach before, because that's pretty much standard on any stormy day. Certainly on Aberdeen beach on your average stormy day. No need for a 'Frankenstorm' to make the air go Boom and the ground go Rumble.

One thing a storm does over here is confirm that Americans, in general, are hysterical, highly-strung, terrified women, with a natural disposition towards gross exaggeration.

It's not a word I often use, but Yanks tend to be fuds about anything mildly out of the ordinary.

We've got the edge of the Hurricane here in Michigan. It's a bit damp, it's a bit windy, it's not even all that cold. Yet we've got the local authorities pissing their pants in case the fucking ground opens up and swallows Macomb County.

On their occasional 'Storm Watch' broadcast... renamed 'Frankenstorm Watch' :clangers2: they encourage people to call in if they feel anything more sinister than a drop of rain on the back of their fucking necks.

I'm tempted... I'm genuinely tempted... to call in and tell them that I've just "Beheld a Pale Horse on I-696."

Need to check with Kelt, but isn't all power cables in the U.S overhead.Every time we see picture of a storm there we see cables writhing and sparking about.

Pretty much... any time there's a storm you'll see the fuckers swinging around and threatening to come apart and electrocute anyone within a hundred foot radius. America goes on the principle that cheaper is best, safety costs money.

That crane in new york didn't last long!

Fuck em, never liked those birds anyway... with all standing on one leg and eating fish and their fucking "I think you'll find that's MY parking space."

bastards! thought it might be but couldn't find it online. :nono:

still.. it would have been a great photo. if it'd been real. :(

EDIT: the picture, minus the statue of liberty, is a photo taken of a supercell t-storm in Nebraska in 2004. :o

Here you go, quine.. this'll cheer you up a bit.

This is a picture I took, and it's not photoshopped.
