Motherwell V Aberdeen (2 - 2)

MASSIVE MASSIVE game this now.

Be a very important win if we get it.

Wonder if we'll have a certain Adam Rooney in the squad & if he'll make an instant impact? :crossfingers:

Hope I get home for it. Might be stuck on rig. Due home on Thurs but weather has been shocking. First choppers in over a week Yesterday.

Never seen the wind up so strong & for so long from the same direction in my life. It's unheard of.

Edit: WTF is with the spaces between the lines? I didn't leave any.

It's not as big as the semi final so I would rest Jack, Robson and Flood and drop McGinn.

Start Low, Smith, Rooney and Hayes.

Couldnt give less of a fuck about this game,

Rest key players give the kids a shotty and keep everybody fit for the semi, winning a cup is more important than the league.

While I agree with the sentiment, the reality is that there more 'continual' money in being higher placed in the league.

Winning this cup, although great is only just winning a cup. If it was the Scottish cup however with a European slot available for another 'payday' then yay. But the league cup where winning means you get a tin trophy.......

Winning a cup isn't just "winning a cup" it's breaking a 20 year cycle of pish that has plagued the club. It is giving the fans something back for having to put up with years of inept performances in the cups. It is giving us hope for the future that maybe just MAYBE we'll become a force again in Scottish Football.

it's just a cup.....wise up.

Yep agree with last couple of posters. Winning the cup means success and place in record books. Christ we have not won one for 2 decades. 2nd place means fuck all really. First loser as those cunts Nike would say.

Street parade after winning the cup. Nothing for 2nd in the league.

I can't actually believe someone thinks the league game is more important.

Final evidence is the lack of a concerted campaign orchestrated by afcwull to get various family members tickets

Club success is measured in trophies, not coming 2nd place in a league of 12. In 20 years time when i'm telling my grandchildren about the Dons, I don't want to say "2014 was a good year for the Dons, they finished 2nd in the league but lost in the semis of the cup. It's ok though because we got plenty of money from the 2nd place and got to compete in the qualifiers of the Europa league which we lost to some 5th places Polish team"

If some folk had their way we'd have the squad parading down Union Street with the top 6 trophy held aloft by captain Russell Anderson, who'd look ashamed and embarrassed at it all, and special "anniversary" dinners every 10 years.

The streets would be deserted except for tainboy and millertime who are weeping in pride at the teams "achievements".

Embarrassing.

Stop arguing everyone.

Imo, a professional football team should go out to attempt win every meaningful game, using every means at their disposal. Especially when they are earning 1000s to kick a ball about.

Strong squad or weak squad, we have proved ourselves capable of f*cking semi-finals up regardless, even against qualitatively inferior opposition.

As for resting players - its only a game against Motherwell FFS, they are not storming the Normandy Beaches.

And about the semi: a competent Aberdeen side should be able to beat the likes of St Johnstone comfortably, regardless of the circumstances.

And I cannot believe that, this year, it will be 19 years since we last won a trophy. F*ck me, where has the time gone?

When I was a boy, we used to win trophies so often it almost seemed passé.

Don't agree with dropping players to rest them for the semi final. They are fit lads and can cope with 2 games that are 7 days apart FFS. I wouldn't like us to go into the semi final with a team that mostly hadn't kicked a ball for 2 weeks.

I think the Robson, Flood and Jack trio will work for our next few games. I only have an issue there in home games where we need to be more direct. Definitely drop Tate and Vernon.

Dropping players is wrong imo. We're not Chelsea ffs.

They need to get back to winning ways & perform the way they were before last sat BEFORE the semi.

Hopefully sat was just a blip & they can get the confidence back v motherwell in preperation for the semi.

Winning a cup is massive (regardless of which one) cos we've nae won one since forever but every league position is important also in terms of financial reward for the club & in terms of what budget/backing the club will give McInnes to play with in future.

EVERY game is important but i'd maybe agree with resting a couple of key players before a final, or if it was a semi in the Scottish cup.

No reason to sacrfice effort in one game just to focus on another.

In fact losing badly to Motherwell would be a poor preparation for the St J game.

I'd have no problem with a couple of changes to rest a key player or give a new signing some game time but otherwise I think we should just keep the team settled.

Also I don't think we should be dropping McGinn IMO just needs a bit of a word from the manager and to get his focus back. Motherwell game would be a good place for him to start that, maybe goal would lift his confidence in advance of St Johnstone too.

Defence seems the most difficult are to pick at the moment IMO, Tate hasn't quite slotted in and it may need a reshuffle if he's going to be more comfortable at CB than FB?? Do we rest or play Anderson? Reynolds at CB or FB? etc.

Tate is no full back. We're in trouble if he gets played there again... unless he wakens up to how to play in that position from the last game.

I don't think we can afford to or even should be "resting" players. Not for more important games. Resting them because they were shit, maybe. Even there our squad isn't massive enough to rest every player that was crap the last game or few.
