ChutneyLove
Who does everyone think will win? Hard to look past the hosts or Argentina for me. Teams from Europe don't tend to do well in South American World Cups. If the Nigels don't get anything from Italy first up, they'll be on the plane home - Uruguay will be too strong for them in South America. They will likely be playing a bounce game against Costa Rica. Link to comment
Bluto10
England will progress to knock outs. After that draw depending. Winners? Brazil with home advantage or Spain are the two obvious ones. Link to comment
Dynamo
Hard to see past Brazil. Being hosts big advantage. Link to comment
ChutneyLove
Can the mods sort out the voting thing? It wants to force you to take two choices. Either that or take 12 teams out - the Africans, the Asians and the guffs should just about do it. Link to comment

I read that al of their first three games will be played in an 'inhumane' heat against teams used to those conditions. Could be well off the mark though. Fancy Uruguay or Belgium, both underdogs obviously.Fancy a Uru & Cavani double. Link to comment
ChutneyLove
It doesn't matter how long ago the last World Cup in South America was bobo - there is no European influx of players there. The Europeans struggle when they play in those conditions. It doesn't matter if it's 1970, 1986, 2014 or 2100. A very, very good European side might get to the latter stages or final, but they will come undone when up against a good South American unit. South American players often play in Europe, so their they can compete over here. They have the advantage of coming from South America and playing in Europe - so don't have an acclimatisation issue. Most European players will be blowing out their arses in most games after an hour or so. Link to comment

RUL
Is there any sites where you can predict the scores up to the final, obviously it works out who would play in the quarters etc based on your results? I think it'll be tough for all European teams, Brazil/Argentina is my guess. Link to comment

In all but two of these tournaments a European team has been one of the finalists. Maybe they were just beaten by the better team? Look at 1986. Brazil were knocked out of the Quarter Finals by France and Mexico were knocked out of the Quarter finals by Germany. In 1986 when Argentina beat W. Germany 3-2 in the final they just happened to have one of the best players to have ever played the game in their team. Coincedince? Link to comment

The German squad has 15 midfielders and 2 strikers...Although how they classify Podolski and Schurrle as midfielders is anyones guess. Klose, the very definition of a big tournament player, is included, but at 35, surely this will be a tournament too far for him. Link to comment
boboisared
How many World Cups have been won by European teams outside of Europe? 1? Yeah, Spain in South Africa.Exactly. So in future will we now say 'Only European teams can win it in Africa'? I wonder how many Europeans paly in the African leagues? Link to comment

Dynamo
Aye they're 5th favourites. Dark horses = Chile. Tough group but they could put the Cloggies to the sword. Link to comment

Balloon. Depends what bookie you go to for them to be 5th favourites also. You can get them at 20/1, along with Italy and also France can be had at 18/1. Link to comment
boboisared
So the experts need a hiding?Exactly. Will now claim he was fishing like. He got you Pipes, he got you. I would 5th favourites are dark horses in any case. Link to comment

Fuck off, a dark horse is a team that rocks up, no one really tips and they kick up a storm. They are 20/1 best price and that's one firm, I know lads that are on them at 160+ from 18 months ago, then they were dark horses. Link to comment
Dynamo
Anyway, here's a group predictor - will be tough for Chile having just looked at this. Even if they get out the group (say 2nd place behind Spain) they'd play the winner's of Brazils group (likely Brazil). Germany/Brazil and Spain/Argentina as the semi finals for me. http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/world-cup/tournament-predictor Link to comment
