aberdeen1970
If its Jonny Hayes on an 18 month permanent deal then that's one thing. Jonny Hayes on a 4 month loan when he he's barely played recently is another thing. I'd be OK with the former. The latter is a bad idea. We'd be spending 4 months getting him match fit like Wilson Link to comment

Brochman
Even though a case could be made for his return, I still think this back to the future policy should stop. It demoralises younger squad players who are pushed down the pecking order. And it usually doesn't work. Arnasson and McGinn are examples. Short term sticking plasters will leave McInnes trying to put a new squad together in the close season for the third year in a row - something he isn't good at. Better to build long term than this burach. 1 Link to comment
aberdeen1970
Yeah I hear you but the January window is exactly that, a patch up job til the summer. If last summer's main transfers had been of the required quality we wouldn't be too bothered about patching up now til next summer. Link to comment
TheRock
I felt fine with McGinn and Hayes leaving, we had their best years and they were both about to turn 30. So I dunno how I feel about it being 18 months later and them both being back. Especially at Connor McLennan's expense as I feel like he's really made the best of his chances. Scotty Wright will probably feel like he might as well not be there, he'd drop down to 5th choice winger (maybe even 6th as I wouldn't be surprised if Stewart appears out wide before the season is done) Wouldn't be too upset if this turns out not to be true 1 Link to comment
aberdeen1970
Wright IS a 5th choice though McLennan and Hayes as our wingers is the way forward, for nowYeah I agree. Hayes left, McLennan right, Stewart behind the striker. McGinn and Wright would be back up. I think there's flexibility with that 5 too. You could play most of them in at least 2 of the 3 positions behind the striker. Link to comment

Mr John
I can live without Hayes. He's just spent 18 months on a plastic green seat, holding his nose. A 2015 model Hayes? Yes please. Give McLennan & Wright a run. Isn't Ross due back soon? Link to comment

BHH & bring it on I say. Hayes back also softens the loss of Lowe in summer, as Hayes can drop back to LB if we eventually find someone better to replace him or McGinn on LW. McInnes will know it makes sense as this is exactly his type of player Link to comment

TheRock
Remember in December, McInnes saying he felt that GMS and Shinnie owed it to the club to let them know what they were doing in January. Obviously they aren't obligated to but I guess Derek felt they would. I assume the club won't pull the contract offers. Link to comment

Tord31
McInnes is doing a sterling job eeking out the will they wont they stay debate. I already predicted he'd manage to keep it going till March. Would have so much more respect for DM and Shinnie if they just came out and said he's moving on. So DM promised update in January and he's now changed it to another 1-2 weeks. Link to comment

The longer it goes on with no word would lean towards them not staying I guess? also not quite sure what the talking in riddles is about regarding GMS, DM says "There is a chance [he could leave before the end of the season], but I've been given assurances that we don't need to take an offer", Link to comment

Would be happy to bring in a new starter for wing and let the three of them fight it out. Link to comment
Zander1903
we already know what we get from McGinn but McLennan's a youngster so hopefully he's gonna progress much rather we developed our own players than play the lottery every transfer window Link to comment
Tord31
Ok phrase it another way. I've to be convinced we can afford to make a half arsed attempt at the third and fourth choice wingers for next season eg like our RB backup policy. As things stand I see it needing to be at least one senior player like GMS or Hayes. Hopefully someone different as I'd hope we could unearth someone better Link to comment
aberdeen1970
I think we need to invest in McLennan and give him every chance to become a first team regular. He's doing enough to get picked for me. The boy has the tools to be an excellent player for us. Link to comment
