Andrew Considine Testimonial

Recommended Posts

Deserved or not?

Don't have anything against the big man but he's not exactly been amazing over his tenure. Always thought we could do better tbh, but he has proved we needed him this season.

Mixed thoughts.

Any ideas/opinions on the opponent?

Langfield next year I'd imagine.

What do you mean "does he deserve it?" The whole point of a testimonial is because he's been here for 10+ years, regardless of how good or bad a player he is.

There are some belters coming from that Famous Aberdeen page on Faceboobs. One girl said that he was "the worst player in history", this other guy said that he wasn't as good as Anderson, Reynolds and, wait for it, Diamond! :clangers2:

The defender will take centre stage in early November as the programme of events kicks-off in style with a dinner, and what promises to be a night to remember.

Pittodrie idols Theo Snelders and Paul Mason, team-mates in the 1989/90 cup double winning season, will be the guest speakers at a glittering testimonial dinner at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on November 10. Impressionist Paul Reid will also be entertaining guests, with Radio Scotland's Richard Gordon, an avid Dons fan, compering the evening.
The dinner is the first of a series of high profile dates, with a glamorous friendly at Pittodrie also among the highlights.
A Banchory boy and a product of the Aberdeen FC youth academy, Andrew has made over 200 appearances for the Dons since making his professional debut in May 2004. A powerful defender who has featured for the club in both a left-back and central defensive role, the 27-year-old was deservedly named AFC player of the year in the 2011/12 season, a season during which he was also club captain.
Now in his 12th season at Pittodrie, Andrew is looking forward to the campaign ahead. He said: "It is exciting for myself, it is exciting for my family. I am very fortunate to have been at this club for all these years. I just want things to go well on the pitch so that 2014/15 is a memorable year for myself and everyone connected with AFC."
The Andrew Considine Testimonial Committee, led by Chairman Bruce Webster and comprising prominent local businessmen Barry Duncan (CNR International), Jim Stewart (RAM Tubulars), Trevor Mutch (R Davidson) and Scott Milne (Qinterra AS), is delighted to be leading the tributes to Andrew.
Bruce Webster said: "As a committee it is our pleasure to work with Andrew in his testimonial year. He is a true testament to the fantastic youth policy at AFC - already making over 200 appearances at the age of just 27, for a club which he has supported since he was a youngster.
"We look forward to welcoming the support of Dons fans and the business community throughout the season as we honour a player who has steadfastly and consistently given his all for the reds."
An official golf day is planned and the testimonial match is being scheduled for early 2015. The year of events will be launched with the November 10 dinner at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels, for which a limited number of tables, are still available. Has become somewhat of a novelty. Always thought we had a good track record of rewarding players who really deserved it until Mackie got one.

It says more about where we were as a club during the 2000s than anything else. A player like Darren MAckie should never have been here for 2 years, let alone 10.

Considine is a far better defender than Mackie was as a forward.

Yeah, I would have felt mean drawing a comparison on the two. Consi deserved each and every one of his contracts, Mackie certainly didn't!

You wouldn't have gave him a contract at the end of 04/05 after scoring 15 goals?

I said Mackie didn't earn ALL of his contracts, not that he didn't deserve any of his contracts. Plus, thinking about the fact that he'd scored 17 goals in 123 apps before that season, should he still have been here to score that majestic 15 goals in a season?

He's only 27. Seems pretty young for a testimonial, unless they're planning on getting rid in the summer...

I think is pretty much the reason why this testimonial has been shoehorned in so quickly. The obvious thing to do would have been to announce that next season was his Testimonial year, rather than announcing it will run from November to next May.

Will be at one of the Dundee clubs next season is my guess.

First season in a decent team with a top manager.

Why does he have a testimonial committee full of likely rich men? Isn't his da minted too, coincidentally?

Seems like a sound gaj, wasn't sure about the Afro thing and the Kafka modelling but plays well at CB.

That alcoholic gave him his debut, let's get formartine to Todders and the dons family can turn out in a sea of red and give Andy the Pittodrie roar
