Clydeside_Sheep
Anyone else p*ssed off with this, paying for bags at the shops? Its another patronising, nannying SNP law. I am surprised we dont all have a nominated official to come and hold the bags for us (yet) and ensure we use them properly. For a start, we already paid for bags - its just that the cost was hidden within the price of the goods. Its not as if shops previously gave us free bags, out of their tremendous generosity and concern for mankind. So now we are paying twice for bags = unfair. Anyway, its supposed to be "single use" bags - but everyone I know got more than 1 use out of supermarket carrier bags. After carrying your shopping, one could use them for a packed lunch, or as a bin liner, or to suffocate a sevconian etc etc. So that classification is really unfair too. Even worse, I have found the law even applies to bags in McDonalds etc. They ask "Do you want a bag?" - why, no, I prefer to struggle to carry my various food items while they are exposed to the elements and ravenous gulls etc, thank you. This law might make a small difference, but they could have made a big difference by forcing supermarkets to use recycled, biodegradable brown paper bags instead of plastic. Policing corporate behaviour would be a much better / more effective policy than fleecing the ordinary consumer. And so its really just gesture politics - how is my paying 5p per bag going to make a difference, while (e.g.) I still receive kilos of junk mail per week? A load of nonsense. We should of course care for the environment, but you can drive a coach and horses through the obvious flaws / piss-takes in these environmental laws And who is it, behind the scenes, raking it in with all these 5p bag charges eh? Cobbing runts the lot of them. Link to comment

Clydeside_Sheep
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............. Pick up a canvas bag, Trust you to be on the side of the oppressive establishment, dave_min. Thon canvas bags are crap - they dont hold very much and cant easily fit into your pockets. If you have a few, you would end up needing a canvas bag, for your canvas bags. Yet more expenditure. The "bags for life" are crap too. I managed to rip two, just trying to open the blasted things. I wonder if you can order online, but specify no bags in the delivery? See how they like that...... Link to comment
Poodler
I've been stuck behind a few moaning women in the last week. 5p is a disgrace etc. Is it REALLY a disgrace? Some stores say it goes to charity, i highly doubt all 5p will go to charity but we will never know. I now take a vase to the shops and balance everything home in it on my head like an African. So doesn't bother me. 1 Link to comment
Dynamo
It's 5p for a bag. Re-use ones you've already got. McDonalds is shite. Save the environment maaaaan. Link to comment

That means you need to rigorously pre-plan going to the shops, and how many bags you need etc. Takes all the spontaneity out of a trip to ASDA. I like being spontaneous. Link to comment

I like being spontaneous. I don't believe this. Your ASDA shop will be penned in on your calendar in your kitchen. Sunday morning 8AM or something. You'll have worked it out over the years that this is the optimum time for stocked shelves and low customer volume, and you and the Mrs do it before church, every week. or you could just keep bags in your car, so you're prepared even when you're being spontaneous! Guest
We have a big bag in the boot of the motor - one of thon eens from a foreign supermarket and within it we have bottle bags, canvas bags, plastic bags etc. I love this recycling lark. The only time I got teen was when I was in M & S the other day so I'm 5p down since it came in and hugely positive from recycling. People moaning about it WANT to clog up landfill sites needlessly and through utter selfishness and laziness. Fuck those cunts I say. Get them educated. Link to comment
fine-n-dandy
What a dreadful thread. A fishing attempt with moans about "SNP LAW" Even without your pish complaining/blaming of "SNP LAW" & taking the thread for anything other than it being a shite piss take. It's still a shite thread. You big fucking girl. Link to comment

AT the weekend I completely forgot about this bag carry on so just took home the two baskets I was carrying the shopping in. I'll return them at some point obviously. Likewise if I lived anywhere near a supermarket and didn't have the car with me I'd just take the fucking trolley home with me and return it next visit. Link to comment
chaos_defrost
Not enough people give two shits about the environment so that's why we are getting charges like this. You either need to penalise or reward people to get them to recycle. That's not me preaching, cause I must admit I do very little when it comes to recycling. I'm all for this though and will make an effort to reuse bags now. 1 Link to comment

ChutneyLove
I am not one for conspiracy theories, they are generally for folk that need some justification for being a lazy cunt. I do however doubt that mankind does not have the advances in chemistry to neutralise any effect plastics have on our planet. The "environment" was hardly even a word 40 years ago - at least not many people would have known what it meant. Ozone layer, rainforests, climate change - all a perfect foil for western governments to tax the fuck out of stupid cunts. It's all there in our rock record for everyone to see - the climatic changes experienced now have happened repeatedly over Earth history, often with drastic consequences. But just you let David Cameron tell you your tax is going up to do something about it though. Careful now, Coronation Street starts in 5 minutes you might miss it you fucking imbecile. gla5gowdon
Far more progressive European countries than us have been charging for years. No issue with it at all. We should go further and start a Pfand system on all our cans and bottles - what a difference that would make. Link to comment
Bluto10
CS is right though. They shouldn't be charging the consumer. They dinna care about wastage or the environment either. If they really wanted to make a difference they just would not stock or produce carrier bags full stop. The bottle recycling idea is good. Link to comment

Bluto10
But why charge for them? Wouldn't be for the easy profit they make on all the millions of bags sold would it? Link to comment
