Return Of The Deck

Seems the record deck is back in fashion, my daughter is screaming out for one and wants vinyl instead of download, was only a matter of time as it was the best format.

I sold my twin deck SL1200'S to fund my France 98 adventure, if I'd kept them they'd be way up in value apparently, they were the stuff of legend and the core of the legendary flat parties at my first place, anyway I digress. Anyone got an old turntable in the loft they no longer use? I'm sure even a year ago you wouldn't have got 10p at Thainstane for one but the shops are knocking them out now at £80 to £100 quid, weird how things come back, I'm praying that Paisley pattern shirts do, was my best ever look.

The more retro the better, anyone help out a poor man give his daughter a gift she'll cherish?

I'm trying to think of the next big come back as well so fire them in if you can think of anything, together we can stockpile and become multi millionaires when it happens.

Been a while since you mentioned France 98, I was worried.

I've got a lovely turntable and speakers. Advtanges of living with someone in a band that kens what they are talking about.

Without the deck sale it would never have been possible, I sold anything in my flat that wasn't nailed down. 3 weeks that made 50 people from Aberdeen become legends in the 300 gladiator mould, one day Sony will be all over it.

I only hope George Clooney isn't too old before someone wakes up to the story, I want him or Danny Dyer to play me.

If we are doing g retoro I still have my (boxed) Atari STE.

nae sure I like vynyl.

I have about 500+ CD albums.

That would equate to a whole room if it were vynyl.

And would be hard to find specific albums due to the sleek nature of the sleeve spines.

I have explained to the daughter that download came to the fore for a reason but seems the youth of today like the retro look and sound of vinyl, I also read the other day that people are shunning kindle downloads in favour of real books, perhaps the digital era has worn off and people prefer the real thing. We'll be back to huge box tv's soon as people tear the flat screen off their wall.

I doubt the digital era will wear off. Music wise, with storage space getting larger, compression can become smaller so the quality of digital music is only going to get much better. Ultimately you want lossless quality. The same can be said with Video.

I do prefer a real book than an ebook, however the kindle is far more convenient when going away somewhere and taking a heap of books. It doesn't give you the same satisfaction when you start a new novel or finish the last page of a book, but it's definitely more portable. The other benefit of digital books is that it saves cutting down millions of trees.

Gaming will eventually become digital as well. However the second hand market is still huge and people do prefer to own a hard copy as they take up huge amounts of space on the HDDs

I'm a big fan of vinyl, it's by far the best format for listening to music (apart from when some dickhead band release a double record album that only lasts about half an hour long and you keep having to flip sides every few minutes). The most depressing thing about this new trend for vinyl is that if it happened a couple of years ago One Up might still be on the go.

Anyswer me this vinyl geeks.

Why is it better than the obvious comparison of a CD?

Vinyls are massive. Size wise.

Vinyls are expensive.

Vinyls have no track skip/select/repeat function

Vinyls run on odselte non supported hardware

Get with the programming old men, vinyl died years ago.

depends on the mp3 bit rate.

Rip a CD with a bit rate rate of less than 128 and you'll notice a big difference in quality (i.e. it sounds shit) pretty much AM Radio quality.

I use the defaults.

I'm nae saying there ain't a difference just the cons outweigh the slight quality improvement in vinyls.

I do like the romantic crackle though; would really suit the Jonny ace song pledging my love.

It's good picking dust off the needle, makes a nice noise.
